No matter if the handbrake lever is up or down the w/l is always off. The lamp on the dashboard is checked ok.

Is there any chance that some Mk1 models were not equipped with a handbrake w/l circuit? Undecided

According to the Haynes manual there should be a switch near the handbrake lever.
Mine is probably invisible!!! Grin There is nothing there under the carpet...

the switch should be perfectly visible under the lever, there is no other chance. No mysteries here.....is your MKI a low end version, square front lights?

I'm picking the Haynes manual has some sort of piture showing you what is not there. But here is a couple of back ups. I'm sure some one will have a spare and hopefully the wire is floating around there some where

I thought some Series 1 cars did not have a handbrake light. It was dependant on the model and the intended market.

Guys thanks for the support...

I can confirm that there is no switch under the lever. I will have a closer look for the cable.
The car is the one with the twin round headlights. It was badged "Special", not sure if it was the same in the UK.

My previous 131 Special (exactly the same model) had the entire circuit installed. The difference is that the previous one was purchased from Belgium back in 1977 and driven to Greece.
The one without the switch was directly imported to Greece in 1976 by the FIAT dealership, and then purchased new by the P.O.

I too tend to believe that it has to do with the market although I would rather understand the emission control systems or the PAS absence, but the handrake w/l.... Huh
