My Current Project

« on: May 21, 2012, 03:10:36 AM »

Hi, I recently posted a wanted ad on the site and thought I would make other member aware of this.
A couple of weeks after posting I got an email directly as I posted by direct email address (silly me) from a guy in the UK saying he had what I needed, no photos.  I went back and advised I had found my item but did he have another rare item which to my surprise he did, but could not send me photo's as he had computer problems. I advised no photos no purchase and asked how much, he provided a figure in USD. So we had a person living in London and wanting USD payment and my guess is the person was really in Nigeria.
When I asked for his alias for the site the communication stopped.
I guess there are a lot of scammers around so just be cautious.

i relayed this story about an e bay add some time ago, almost similar topic.
Steve

Ive mentioned multiple sellers on e bay before, i myself bought (Buy it Now) Item from a multiple seller because i thought well its a rare item and if he has a few as advertised i should be OK, He didnt even have ONE, gave me some story about having sold his last one the day before, so after asking him for my money back and not getting any reply i had to resort to e bay resolutions centre. after about 8 weeks my moneys were refunded under the understanding that my action against the seller was to be dropped, just makes me wonder if its a scam to get your moneys into their bank accounts to gain a little interest. When i left negative feedback i was threatened with counter feedback which would have destroyed my existing 100% positive feedback, im afraid these con men know e bay inside out, my advice: dont buy from any multiple listings.
Note: these multiple listings are a result of ebays 'Free listing weekends' i have on several occasions asked e bay to stop this practice, im sure electronically it can be done after all if you have a few of one item you simply list the number you have in the single listing, the system even reduces the number automatically for you as they sell.

Whilst it is usually best to buy from someone who is known to be a good trader it isn't always possible - especially if the seller is offering a rare item that you are desperate for. Undecided

ebay is a minefield. I rarely use it, unless I'm desperate - which is probably the most 'dangerous' time  Angry

Obviously the moral of this story is when posting on this forum only deal with people who are registered on this forum. Unfortunately there are far too many spammers and scammers around and we do try to keep them off the forum so you should only deal with registered members on this forum.

All good advice. True members are genuine, my mistake was to post my email address so they could avoid the member forum. Cheers Paul

I've had the same problem with wanted and for sale ads. Not so much on here but on a few other sites.

Usually you can tell if someone is genuine or not. I've had some really strange ones like the guy on a submarine that wanted me to text as he was deaf!

Another guy wanted to buy lots of the parts I had advertised but didn't want to give me a delivery address so I could get a price for delivery.

Another giveaway has been the wish for lots of personal info such as name, address, phone number, bank details and so on.

If it doesn't sound or feel right then it probably isn't Wink

I have once sold a bumper to South Africa through ebay and all went very nice together with shipping by air freight. I was aware some Nigerian scammer so i insisted on having the payment to be done by bank transfer instead of some paypal or credit card and it was all fine, the guy accepted that, thaere wa no way he could in that case make a scam. but this applies if i sell some parts to such guy. the other way it will not work that easy. most of the time you are able to filter such scammers for seeng those sentences in the mail :
"pleae give me present condition of the item...."
"please get back to me....."
If you find such sentences in email than it is 99% scammer - i recive hundreds of such email.
