How about cutting the flange off. Make up, weld on a 40DCOE Webber flange.  That is what I was thinking thirty five years ago for my 1528 OHV screamer, ended up with twin side droughts instead.

  Just a thought  Grin

Hi,
Can I ask you if you don't mind posting some photos of your solex please? I need to know if there's something missing in mine because I don't have any tunning bolts to tune the mixture... Sad

Hi Shopper,

More power is all but cheap?

How much more power and from what engine.

I would go the way Toad suggested, and go further but : how much of a mechanic are you?

You  could:

-  change intake manifold to match two double Weber 40 IDF
-  change to adjustable timing wheels ad play a bit with timing,
-  port the intake manifold and head ports
-  close air intake (so it does not take hot air from under the bonnet but through a new air dust takes fresh colder air  from under the grill,
- use a sports filter
- use no filter - just trumpets and top them with a net covers
- use 102 octane Shell V-power gasoline
- check pressure in exhaust increase diameter of exhaust pipe,
- use sports muffler
- etc, etc.

However be warned : if you start playing with any one element you need to play around with at least with three or four others. Engine is a machine with multiple interrelated systems. Changing one will likely adversely effect or put additional strain on other systems  This can kill your (more powerful) engine  or can lead to less power. Getting less power by making partial changers is not unheard of.

Good luck

Miro

yes i know.... that much more power is not cheap

but a little bit....
i remember the first tuning action on my 128
oneway carburator(32CEV) away... and a 2step carburator on ( 32 DMTR )
so you have more power and the costs are under 100euros

so i think
give it someone else for the 131

ok...
now i have found a 1,4l DOHC
same HP

pics from the solex follows

Why only a 1.4?  Can't you get hold of a 2.0Ltr   or do you have tax class restrictions to contend with?

That 124 lump is a waste of money,   I mean a 132/131 2.0Ltr Cheap enough,

2.0 ltr engine
1600 pistons
Diesel bearings
Lighten the fly wheel
port the head if you can afford it.
Twin 45 side draughts or 44 down draughts.
Bigger exhaust and better manifold.

Keep the cams

should be good for about 140/150 I would have thought, and easy to do your self.

Ok, best economy with a bit more power.

Raised compressions, pistons or head skim.   = power and economy.
Exhaust manifold and system = Power
Lightened flywheel  = Acceleration
Carb re-jet
Plugs  BPR7ES  OR  BPR7EVG
Use a cool air flow to the Carb

Shopper's car is a Series 1, right? First question will be: does a TC engine fit in? Engine mounts, gearbox??

The 1.4 DOHC would be a very nice engine, but will it be a bolt-on solution for a Series 1 car??

Concerning Roger's evaluation:

Quote
2.0 ltr engine
1600 pistons
Diesel bearings
Lighten the fly wheel
port the head if you can afford it.
Twin 45 side draughts or 44 down draughts.
Bigger exhaust and better manifold.
Keep the cams
should be good for about 140/150 I would have thought, and easy to do your self.

this is nearly the setup in my car (40 IDFs, not 44/45), and it has less than 130 HP on the rolling road.

For cheap power get a 2000TC; for a nicely revving engine, take the 1400TC. But for both engines, check first if they fit with just small modifications!

I would think the engine mounts will work as they all seem to be similar, but try to keep the flywheel, bell housing and starter motor together, that way it should all bolt up and turn over.   Some of the flywheels are different in size for the starter to engage with.

Last bit,  on my engine the boys reminded me that the compression ratio my have been a bit higher than is normal, well quite allot really, that could be the power difference.  Sorry I forget we did this.
