The chrome finish inside my S2 square headlights are faded and ugly.New lights are unobtainable in South Africa.Someone told me to have it redone?does this work or is it possible to buy new lights in Europe or the UK?Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Got a set for you with frames !

Miro

PS : Yes this can be done by a specialized shop. I had  it done  with the   racing headlights/  Looks good , but is not as durable as original.

The square headlights I have mentioned are in excellent shape  inside out )

Miro.

You can readily buy them from ebay, there's plenty of them and they're all new:

Marco,

Be careful to buy headlights for RHD cars. Light units from Continental Europe will be 'handed' for Left Hand Drive cars with the light beam 'throw' being incorrect for Right Hand Drive cars, which drive on the left hand side of the road.

Cheers, Simon

thanks Simon my light's glass is fine I gather that it points the beam in the right direction?I managed to pry it loose from the metal back part.If ibuy the lights from Miro I suppose I could just change the glass parts around?what do you think?cheers

The shape of the mirror and position of the bulb directs the beam, not the glass.

The shape of the mirror and position of the bulb directs the beam, not the glass.

Not on the 131 and other old(er) cars. It's the position of the bulb and the pattern on the glass that directs the beam. The mirrors are the same for LHD and RHD cars (except for the mounting lugs on some headlamps). If you look at the headlamp glass there should be a small arrow pointing left or right to indicate that the headlamp is for LHD or RHD. Having said that, the position of the bulb is the major factor for the direction of the beam. When travelling on the Continent, I convert the headlamps on my 131 to LHD by bending the locating lugs on the H4 bulbs to allow me to rotate them in their mount  Wink
