Dear fans of Fiat 131,
Can anyone tell me what should I do with a carburetor that wasnt working for abt 10 years on Fiat 131 1600TC? It looks very oily and dirty. Any advice?
Thank you

You can buy repair kits quite cheaply. Clean the outside, strip down, clean all parts and then reassemble with the new seals, gaskets etc.

You can buy carburettor cleaner, I usually just use standard cellulose thinners.

No major problems as far as I'm aware if it is the standard Weber carb. The autochoke can cause a few problems but I would just try it as I'm a firm believer in the saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' Smiley

I'm also having trouble with my 2000 TC carburator... It's a Solex TEIE 5-9-10 and I bought a repair kit. Replaced all the gaskets and now, +/- 1 month later the main membrane is also spraying the fuel out.... I opened it and the membrane (PIAMAX) is in worst shape than the previous one... Sad Any idea why this is happening? Thanks in advance

What do you mean by "main membrane"?
Have you used any fuel additives that might have damaged it?

Accelerator pump diaphragm. As long as it's not split then it should be fine.
In the bottom photo it looks as if you have some rust or paint pealing on the carburettor body. Maybe it's because of this that you don't get a good seal and it leaks?

If it was 'new old stock' then it's likely that it was dried out due to age and hence it split easily. If you had any warranty with it take it back and try to get it replaced. Also make sure the spring is the original and hasn't been changed by one that is too 'strong'.

I've had trouble in the past with 'new old stock' stuff.   Angry  The emphasis is on old rather than new  Undecided  Buy another one and hope for better luck.
