Title: Regata 85 Super - Timewarp 1987 - Bargain?
Post by: Thotos on February 15, 2014, 09:39:17 PM
An Austin Rover dealer on London's North Circular Road, D. J. Ketteringham, is planning to sell up and has, among his liquidation stock, a 1987 Fiat Regata 85 Super in blue, registration E824 XGK. The car has been off the road, but stored under cover, since at least 1997 and is reported to be near-immaculate. For details of the car click the link below:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/leicester-vehicle-photography/5045645522/in/set-72157624347389857 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/leicester-vehicle-photography/5045645522/in/set-72157624347389857)

If you're interested (I'm not) you better be quick and you might get a real bargain. You can email the garage on djketteringham@gmail.com or call +44 (0)20 8452 7825. All prices are said to be ?sympathetically negotiable' so the Regata might be the bargain of 2014  ;)

Chris where are you, this is yours ;)

My dad bought one of these for ?50 and traded it on in the days. Served his mate well as a runner round. Don't rot as bad as 131's either.

I know the garage so popped in today for a look,  OMG definitely like being in a time warp,  the car has been in the showroom for sale since is was a year or 2 old and is had and still has had the same asking price on the screen ever since the day it arrived in the showroom !  The car is spotless apart from a 1 or 2 minor knocks on the bodywork and a cracked headlamp but the car is a one off and totally original and certainly rust free as the car has not been outside the warm showroom in over 25 years !  Do I don't I or have I enough wheels around the house and as I currently have no garage to keep her warm and dry.  Seems a crime to leave her outside after all this time inside  in the warm showroom.  Def a car for a collector who appreciates a Regata and a cheap intro to a classic Fiat.  ?2.250 with a new MOT will buy it.

?2250 for a Twin cam may be but not a 85S.

I don't think the money will be an issue Bobby. All depends upon condition.

When was the last time you saw a Regata for sale? Let alone one in nice condition. Who'd have thought that an S3 1600CL 131 would be worth upwards of ?4k? Back in the day we'd have struggled to sell one for ?400! Prices for classic and semi-classic cars are on the up and the time to buy is now, before we are all priced out of the market. :-\

Should Supers also get pricier after the priceboost on Racings?

I suppose so, I guess you only need that one buyer who will pay and they are out there :)

Albert Supers will follow hopefully, just take a few more years :(

I just had to have it ;D a very low miles RHD Regata & Super model too !

It has a very nice history with it :) The car dealer that was selling the Regata, D. J. Ketteringham took it into stock when it was 1 year old with 5000 miles, his wife drove it for many years. I have a letter from 1992 from Fiat with info about unleaded petrol to Mr Ketteringham, the Regata was sold to a Neighbour for his for a year or 2 it was always garaged, then traded back in 1997 & kept in the showroom till how. The Regata was kept running over the years.

It's in timewarp condition, original paint & rust free :) a very rare fiat now & a great find.

I had three of these, one of which was a B reg 100s and I have to say I hated them all and only bought them at the time because they were cheap. Always compared them to 131's which I thought was fare enough as they took over from them but the problem with that was they were a total let down in every respect and I thought they drove worse than the equivalent strada which was odd as they were basically the same car.

Well done, nice looking car..............................but have to say, I don't have much affection for regata's.  We used to have a red 85s Weekend, worst car we ever had, breakdowns, rust and dealers who didn't have a clue how to fix it, but on the plus side it had loads of room for the kids and I loved the split tailgate. got some pics somewhere have to dig them out....................:)

There is a trick with these fault panels that I found, well it was more on the lancia Thema's but the same set up really. If the oil dipstick sensor is faulty and you can't get the light to go out on the fault panel which is really annoying you can solder a dash light bulb (larger type) onto the dipstick end and it thinks everything is ok and the light will go out, must be the same resistance ?

Thanks Kev :) I am very happy with the Regata, I had it out for a drive today too ! I never drove a Regata before :o I was pleasantly surprised it was not as bad as I thought it would be to drive ! Good power from the OHC engine, very comfortable seats & it's very spacious inside. All the Super spec toys inside are great too ;D

Well Nick, the E30 is a Helmut Kohl era car, not "Angela merkle". These were the good old times when there were still 2 Germanys (but only one that built cars)  ;)

We were better off then, btw.

The E30 (even for me, not being into BMWs) happens to be a nice little motor, especially when it comes like this:

Sorry guys,

After all the stick I took about (not) posting pics of my M5 on this forum, I find the pics of these 3-series appearing on an 'Italian Cars Only' site (other people's words, not mine) rather surprising.

Does this mean that I can now post a pic of my M5?

Robert I think the e30 was one of the best cars BMW ever made. It's was the last of the classic BMW's & was very well build.

Simon I think almost everyone likes the old school BMW's :)

You made the right decision buying this one I think it looks great in every way.
The guy down the road from my dad's house had a beautiful red ie Regatta when I was about 15/16 but he traded it after about a year as he had electrical demons with it if my memory serves me right.
Hope you enjoy it, a great car for a lazy slow take it easy Sunday sunny drive.

The Regatta looks lovely.

Pictures of that E30 bring the memories flooding back. I loved my Black 1986 320iSE bought in 1993.

BMW's had such appeal back then  ;D

Thanks :)

The 1980s & early 1990's was the golden age for BMW's I think, a e30 with a car phone was a very nice car to have back then ;D
