Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: c.a.c131 on July 16, 2014, 10:13:54 AM Did the series 2 have that colour code? Yes in the last of the S2's 1981 :) The Irish market had this colour in 1981 on S2's :) http://www.autoscout24.com/Details.aspx?id=250417127&cd=635348468420000000&asrc=st Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: 131DHOC on July 16, 2014, 11:49:32 AM Nice car, mine is exactly the same including colour, but the car is far too expensive and data are wrong, it's not a 1980 car and it's not 1301. I can't see nothing resembling "recaro" seats or similar. So I think the seller has no idea or he's just trying to cheat.

Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: 131 Lover on July 17, 2014, 07:28:10 PM Nice colour!
perhaps it's some relatives trying to sell it or just plane cheaters trying to make money! Alf... Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: Rob 131 on July 18, 2014, 08:27:13 AM Any form of brown / beige is a complete no no for cars IMHO and has been continuously derided in the motoring press for many years.
Resale values are also affected by choosing such colours. For series 2 Super's 528-Turtle Dove and 707-Chesnut were big no's. Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: Thotos on July 18, 2014, 11:54:39 AM Motoring magazines are written by normal people and unfortunately not all of them know what they are talking about. Some Classic Car magazines still claim that a road-going 131 Sport in good condition is worth under ?2000! I'd like some of those experts to find me about ten 131 Sports at ?1800 each as I think they'll be enough to set up a nice retirement fund for me ;D Some colours look good on some cars and not on others although I'd admit that's more to do with personal tastes. Red looks good on a Ferrari but looks awful on a large Mercedes. I think the metallic brown colour looks good on the four door 131s, it's certainly a period colour and if I was buying such a car the colour would not put me off at all. In fact that colour will probably make me want to buy it even more ;) When I was looking to buy a Gamma back in 1996, I almost didn't go to see the car I now have because it was brown! "I don't want a brown car" I thought to myself as I still had preconceived ideas about car colours, probably created by the motoring press ;D But I fell in love with the car as soon as I saw it and I love my big brown car ;D ;D
Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: Rob 131 on July 18, 2014, 01:26:59 PM A Gamma would look good in any colour :).
As far as brown goes the S3 Mirafiori in this colour doesn't look too bad. Whereas the Solid Brown from the S2 looked awful. With such a wonderful range of colours at the time who would of ordered one in this colour :o :o I had a Vauxhall Hire Car this week that could only be described as Brown / Grey Awful ::). James May in one of his books whilst reviewing a VW Phaeton did a piece on 'Brown Car's'. Very amusing and very true. Maybe it's time for a poll on Brown ;D ;D Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: c.a.c131 on July 18, 2014, 02:21:28 PM I have sold a good few new brown cars this year ;D

I think it's just a question of fashion, nowadays brown is almost out of fashion.
Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: irisheyes on July 18, 2014, 08:13:05 PM That looks very nice.
Title: Re: Nice 1 Owner S3 Super Post by: 131 Lover on July 19, 2014, 06:57:59 PM When I was offered my new 131 S3 I thought that brown metallic looked like crap but when the rest was in such good shape I had no possibility to choose colour just to get a S3 in best possible shape!
Chest nut metallic is far better than faded rust colour... But thou I didn't have had any time yet to bring it to its mint shape, but the more time I spend with it I kind of like it more and more! Alf |
