Title: 131 Abarth Replica
Post by: fiat131sport82 on September 22, 2010, 05:11:02 PM
Let see what forum think of last remain 131 sport being cut up, is ok or not?

It depends on the state the car is in. Tonystar's car is too good to be converted. A rusty or slightly damaged Racing is better to change into a replica.
Me I can't vote in this poll. The reason is that I'm stuck between the first two choises. Therefor I will not vote. Sorry.

I did vote for nr. 2
But why should cutting up a 4 door be more legitimate then cutting up a sport?

regards from a 4 door owner

I also did vote for Nr. 2
always everyone can that make with his 131 what it want.
but i am also agree with Mike, a rusty or slightly damaged Racing is better to change into a replica.

Henk,

You're right. It isn't. But there were never 4-door Abarth rally cars. There were 4-door racing cars but never build with the extended wings. Not by Fiat itself anyway. Converting isn't that bad, in my opinion. I have a replica as well. But cutting up a perfect bodyshell hurts. :'(

Mike, I agree
I am putting in an AC system in my 4-door as we speake
It is just partly with OE parts (Also due to availability of OE parts)  but this is what I want to do (I guess similar to tonystar but in a differant way)
and, after all,  it is my car, that is why I voted for 2

cheers

Henk hi. I have also voted for two but I don't think that its the same installing an A\C and turning your car into an Abarth replica... ;)

I once turned my Panorama into a Racing. I have no problem with small conversions. For example, putting the Racing bits to a 4-door car is good. It just gives the car more looks.
Building an AC in is a good conversion. Makes driving more pleasurable.

It is an interesting dillema in which everbody has to draw his own borderlines, I guess....
Currently I am building an dual AC system (front and rear evaporator) for a 1960 Ferrari GTE (Mid east customer)
This is a 2+2 ferrari, small interior but if he freezes, I did it right.
other modifications to the car: 4 speed automatic transmission (BMW gear box), Electrical powersteering, new front and rear suspension (Wheels, hubs, brakes, everything) etc, etc,
The ferrari guys doing all the other stuff have tears in their eyes as the car is quitte rare. (but it is good money)
I like doing these kind of things as it is a challenge every time but if it whas mine, I kept it like OE, I guess...
(PS the owner has a second one and if this one is according his expectations, we may do the second as well)

Would love to share some pics with you but need to have permission first.

Although it is a shame to cut up a car in good condition it makes a better replica in better more original condition.

True. And it's easier to do conversion. But cutting up a second top range car in such good condition brings tears to the eyes. Better to take a car with a little more work and convert it to whatever you want. I did, back in 1988. Took me 5 years. Meanwhile I drove a Racing.
Tony should have done the same. But I keep repeating myself, already said enough in this topic.

Couldn't resist. This poll is too tempting. I chose the first option. Thought about it a lot and looking back at my 131-career I must vote for option 1. Sorry to everybody who thinks different.
Albert?

Albert chooses option 1 when we talk about cars in good original/restored condition, that's because of my affection for the Racing/Sport. Of course I cannot hold people from converting , although I try hard sometimes. Maybe someone will do a 131 cabrio ;D, or even an Abarth cabrio ;D ;D Gullwing doors we saw already ::)

Why convert a 4 door. Because there are more left, also in a not too good condition, maybe ??? But expect that in a few years this discussion can be the same again on the last 4 doors. And 2nd series Super are already almost gone.
Any ideas from other forummembers?

How about this one? Change a Familiare/Panorama into an Abarth spin-off? Or a Racing spin-off?

I am the proud owner of Abarth replica, i wanted to have such car since i saw it in google search in 2002(earlier it was not possible for me to own such car). I was showing photos of that car to some US friends when i was working there on my summer vacation to give them an idea how a good car looks like :). After i came back to Poland i have bought a 131 racing and right from the begining i knew it will be a replica of abarth. I wanted to make a rally car that will be faster then my previous FSO polonez which was made according to group B homologation(not completely but it was 2.0 TC). and after few years of development it is at least as quick as works abarth works cars.  In other words i want to say that if someone wants to build a replica then it is his choice and his money so why not all persons that really like 131 racings buy all remaining cars on the market to save them?

@ djape 1977- It may just be me - But I think you have a wicked sense of humour  ;D
I like it  ;D ;D
@ Albert - Your just greedy -saving all the 131s - but some one has to do it  ;D ;D
I wish I could  ;D ;D

now just how did you get that idea?

Title: Re: 131 Abarth Replica

You just can't save all Racings. Some are too rusty or damaged. And it's no problem to give your opinion sometimes. But Suljo started to get frustrated and ended up being too hard to everybody. I just had to send him a pm. Told him he had to ease down a bit. He couldn't handle it and his reply is up here.

Mike don't feel bad about it. It's everyones right to do and say what they feel freely. If they don't like being somewhere they can always leave and you can't do anything to stop them...

The fact is he started annoying people, in my opinion. One could tell by the way he got replies or not. And how he posted his replies. It's sad he left. If he only changed the way of talking to us.
Anyway, I wish him good luck.

Just a general point for ALL threads and postings,

Why do people think that because some thing, or a point is right and correct, it should be voiced?  We all know some Ladies have blemishes, should you tell them this,  NO,how hurtful would that be, so we shut up and leave it alone.  So why is it felt by some to be perfectly acceptable to be personal about someone's car?   It can be HURTFUL to feel like an outcast from anywhere.

Just a thought,  please respond and convince the rest of us that have Manners.

Roger I always believed that if a matter doesn't really concern me I would just state my opinion and leave it there... I won't try to changeanyones mind or "attack" him/her so that will see things my way...
As for the car part anyone should make his car as he/she is thinking that its beautyfull... We may all love thesame cars but we see them thrugh our view... And also beαuty is subjective for everyone...  I may like my car and you could not stand it... But thats OK since its your opinion... ;)

A forum is to discuss everything that's about that item which the forum is build for. People can give their opinion and others can give their vision about something. But it's of no use to anybody to personally attack others. In this case we all spend our free time with mirafiori's. We share our problems, thoughts and experiences with others.
Sometimes a person is a bit upset about the doing of another and speaks his mind. And sometimes that can be in a way that hurts the other. Even when not meant hurtful. But that's the spirit in all of us, the love for the car.
So, let's state here; everybody with heart for the 131 can, no, must do whatever he wants or likes with it. Others can give their opinion, but without straight attacking the other.
I hope you know what I mean, since it's not always easy to translate my dutch thoughts to English words...  ;)

There you go   ( without straight attacking the other)  Nicely put there.   Next time someone think's off straight talking, imagine telling your Wife the Christmas dinner is awful and see how long you live then. It's the same.

We want to read about car projects, not objectionable insults, keep it focused before people GO

Roger... I take it you understand my meaning.
Please don't involve women here ;) :D ;) They're from another planet... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Just kidding. The point here is that someone, who kept annoying others in my opinion, left the forum because he couldn't handle comments himself. He bl...y started this very topic himself.
As i said in another topic, it's everyone's own point of view. Let's respect that.
You don't have to like everything. Just talk 131 mirafiori. That what this forum is all about.
And if you want my opinion about this topic? It shouldn't have been started.
