Gee - Such a shame to lose what looks like a very good condition Sport. If it has to be then so be it - Will the owner sell some parts that are not needed? I'll send you a PM.  :)

Keep it this way, there are already enough repros!! ??? ??? ??? :'(

I am also interested in EVERYTHING which comes from the car! But still prefer to keep it one of the very few original left sports!!

I also think you should the Racing like it is. Buy yourself a rusty or slightly 2-door saloon and build the replica from that one.

I have a better idea - - Buy this car for ?550 - Spend ?1000 or less for shipping and sell the Racing for ?6000 - Everybody is happy!  ;D

Some word from South Africa.  I support all the guys that say dont strip the Racing!  In SA only 16 Racings were ever produced and I also cut one of them up many years ago because I wanted an Abarth.  At the time there were many 2 door Fiats available but I destroyed a Racing.  Now I am busy restoring one that is in a terrible condition just to save one of them.(Will still start to post some pics in project corner about this project)

Yes, try to save as many Racings/ Sports as possible. I also destroyed some in the past and looking back at that I think it was a stupid thing to do. Now I have one left and I will cherish it. Even though it will not start (see my topic).
I understand lots of enthusiasts like to have an Abarth copy, but do not cut a Racing in pieces for it.

Title: Re: 131 Racing to Abarth Replica 2011
Post by: bellamacchina on August 22, 2010, 03:10:41 PM
I never destroyed a Racing to do an Abarth repro and I will never do as I like Racings more!

Isn't it still possible to find a shell to Abarthise? When the car is in need of total restoration or it's just an emty shell enjoy. Last year I saw one in the UK, you even hadn't take the rearwings off because they were stripped already. And there was a Racing for sale at a Libanese scrapyard somewhere in the for salepart of this forum.

Recently I heard of a Racing Volumetrico( which IS a genuine Abarth!) which was taken to pieces to build another f@#$%** Replica. And of course many many "normal"Racings ended this way.
Question: Is there still an original Walter R?hrl around or did they end all as replica's?
Cannot we do a poll here to stop using the few good originals left for this??

It's not a remark for you Enzo. But what if you made him an Abarth replica from another two door? And then sell the Racing to fund his project... ;)

Post by: mirafiori76 on September 22, 2010, 07:18:47 PM
:D :D No, I can't. Did you notice the front end? Same has happened to the rear. Taillights from first series. Can't change it back because I have no Racing parts. Just the Abarth parts. And having a wonderful example (the group 4 car, see it's behind this car in the picture) I will turn it into a group 4 gravel car. Talking about a real replica.

the car belongs to a friend of enzos and therefore he is entitled to do with it as he wishes, as far as i can see enzo just wants to share the progress of this project on the forum and make available for sale any parts which are not needed for the project, and if the replica is done to enzos own cars standard it will be better than alot of the other replicas and indeed better standard to some of the restored sport/racings.

;) and for what its worth my view is I'm sure this 131 will be OK, it has survived so far...............and so whats the big deal in another guise ? There will always be plenty other 131 sports in the world.
Even 2 door Mk1 Ford Escorts or again the 2 door base model Cortina Mk1's are always being converted into rally cars or Lotus Cortina clones hence the silly prices.

At least it isn't a Lord Brocket job where 3 rare Ferrari's and a Maserati bird cage are now lost forever due to his Fraud, a 7 year jail sentence was not long enough for him IMHO.

I await the end result with interest !

italianxray, I agree with you about Lord Brocket. Just a foolish idiot!

I don't agree with you about Racings. Please show where they are still plentyfull. I am searching but couldn't find such a place for years now. You talk about Escort Mk1 conversions. The basic shell of these cars was made in much bigger numbers and the standard was 2 door. 4 doors were a minority. There is a big difference with the 131 as by far the most cars produced were 4 doors. The other point is that you can use every standard variant of the Escort for the conversion, where you hardly see any 131 2 door L or CL.
And converting a Racing...............you know my opinion.
