Looks like a pretty good example and I'm sure it will make at least the ?1000 it needs to come with 12 months MOT.

Already over ?1000 :o

Isn't ebay fickle? The Maltese import had a full 12 months MOT, and struggled to make this much.

On the face of it this looks like an excellent Supermirafiori and with some TLC and money could I am sure could be a great car. However when you want a Sport nothing else will do ;D

Certain keywords in the ad. "Elderly lady", "garaged all its life", and others give the impression this is a solid car driven by a responsible, cautious person. Dents and scratches are quite self-evident when buying a car from elderly people, so I wouldn't care about that. I agree with Rob, with a little work this is a very good Super for the connoisseur who is not set on Sport and nothing else.

As always you need to go and look to make sure it really is what you want. It does also say in the ad that it has been welded previously. The question is how much, where and to what standard?

Now it's back at ?800 after a bid retraction  ::)

To buy a car at ebay by just looking at some pictures is a high risk. Especially when there are no pics of the underside. And how about mechanial stuff.

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: mirafioriman on February 25, 2011, 12:53:58 PM
I suppose it depends if you can do the work yourself or have to pay someone to do it for you. Generally the mechanical parts are pretty easy to get and mechanical repairs are pretty easy to do to a good standard. The problem for most people is the bodywork.

Maltese one has never been welded - ;D

That's ideal. Even if you have to do some it's easier than undoing other people's!

I visited Malta a couple of time (my favorite foreign summer-country) but never saw this car. Malta is a warm country with less rain so no wonder there is no welding (needed). Good luck. :)

Nice mileage on this ebay car in Epsom, Surrey - the town of my birth incidentally ;D I don't think the scrapes are too much to be worried about and I'm sure it will be a very nice car for the next owner, especially if a few hours are spent on the paintwork. 8) Let's hope the new owner is either a member here or joins us - it would be good to see the car at shows and on 3MA ;).

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: mirafioriman on February 27, 2011, 10:53:09 AM
I would say a series 2 super is more sought after due to rarity. Nearly every 4 door that comes up for sale in the UK is a series 3. However a lot of people prefer the series 3 as it has the 2 litre and the sportier gear shift.

Personally I much prefer the series 2 as I like the look of it much more (grille and no plastics), better interior trim and I like the quirky styling touches such as the gearchange and the twin sliding door glovebox.

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: mirafiori76 on February 27, 2011, 11:03:49 AM
Here in Holland series 2 is also rare. Cl is easier to find. Personally i like the first series Super more. It's boxy style is just better looking. The plastics used on series 3 is just too much.

Post by: finnie on February 27, 2011, 12:08:37 PM
Current price on this one makes mine a bargain - Series 3 is not my preferred choice but this was cheap and a stepping stone till the next one comes along  ;D
M76 i know what you mean about the plastic but I`ve taken it off and looks so much better already  :)

And what will you do about the holes in the bodywork? I mean, the holes where the plastic is fitted? :)

That's business I guess, I can't say I wouldn't do the same if I was offered something cheap that I knew would sell for good money. However if it was a really good one I would keep it ;)

I`m well happy with my one now  ;D

I think that Finnie means that he is happy with his Mk 2 Super from Malta because it cost less than half the current bid for this Mk 3 Super.

I must admit that I did consider this car but my top bid would have been ?1500 - It's gone too high now when you consider the high costs of registering the car in Ireland...plus transport. I did speak with the garage guys selling the car and they have a folder full of bills going back 15 years of work done including radiator, clutch, cam belt, service every year, a load of batteries, etc. Car drives tightly with no back axle noises - Changes gear and brakes as it should - They never really opened up the engine but a one owner lady who is currently in her 80s has a lot of posistives to it. The garage had no idea what interest there would be and had been advised to just throw it away.  :o

Anway, I wish the new owner lots of fun and I hope we get to see the car being restored.  :)

I did think it could get to ?2300/?2500 and with 4 hours left ...it could yet happen.  :)

Ah - My mistake - The point may still be valid though!!  :)

?2170 final price! Good result for the seller who may have thought they had a valueless heap!  :)

Sold for ?2170 Not as many bids at the end of the auction as I thought.

Now we have to wait and see if the buyer is or becomes a member here.

DAMN DAMN DAMN, some ******** using sniping software beat me at the last mili second, the countdown clock said 00, then changed to you've been out bid.
"******* ****** *******", i only hope for that kind of money it gets looked after and not left in a garden for another 20 years.
       or broken up

I doubt anyone who gave that amount of money for one would leave it in a garden or break it for spares.

Hope we get to hear more about it on here though :)

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: Rob 131 on March 04, 2011, 07:21:46 AM
I've been watching this one with interest and its final price is where I thought it would be ;). With some money and TLC you could probably have a very nice 2.0L Mirafiori for ?3,000 :). Many others and I would probably prefer a Sport or even a S2 Super. However when price and practicality  :-X enter into the equation this and many other S3 Super's make a great deal of sense. If I was in the UK more often I would have probably bought this for the reasons as stated. Over the last 12 months this together with the Silver Sport / Racing with the Guy Croft Engine were probably the best buys  ;), or have I missed something. :-[

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: mirafiori76 on March 04, 2011, 07:50:49 AM
Looking at the bidding list you can see that the buyer didn't bid before. Probably to make sure the price wouldn't go too high. He waited untill the end and then stroke. Smart guy.
Now let's see if he shows up on the forum.

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: Rob 131 on March 04, 2011, 09:15:40 AM
Mirafiori 76; The person who bought this will most definitely pop up on the forum. It may not be a He and could well be a She. ;D

Which brings about an interesting question, with the exception of WAGS, how many regular Female contributers have we on the Forum  :)

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: mirafiori76 on March 04, 2011, 09:39:38 AM
Rob,

Sure, it could be a "she". But how many women, do you recon, will buy a Fiat 131 on Ebay? ;)
As for your question. Not enough  :D :D

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: Rob 131 on March 04, 2011, 10:17:25 AM
Mirafiori 76

This could really get the She Debate Going ;)

An intersting twist on this could be what do the WAGS think of 131's.

Mine does not like them  :( and can't see what all the fuss is about.

On a brighter note she (Wife of 10 Years) did comment at the Tatton Park Show in 2007 that the Mirafiori Sport was quite nice.

Post by: mirafiori76 on March 04, 2011, 10:22:45 AM
Ooh, starting a debate about women or wives here? Do you think thats a good idea?
I guess you have to be a bit lucky to have a partner with the same interest. Once i had a girlfriend as fanatical as i was (years ago). Now my ex-wife (to be) made me sell my Abarth Stradale... Things can change.

Hi Guys, Just to let you know I was the lucky person to buy the car (sorry to disappoint those of you who wanted a new female owner!!)

Sorry that I out bid you Strada - hopefully no hard feelings - I didn't use any sniper software I just did exactly what Mirafiori said, I just watched and waited....

Any onto important things I have now booked my hotel for the 3ma11 so hopefully I will get to meet lots of you in Devon in May.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 Super ebay UK
Post by: strada on March 12, 2011, 08:49:42 PM
no bother phil, my motives for bidding were to ensure the car was saved/restored by a forum member. if that had to be me then so be it. i just could't bear to see it  broken up or left in a garden for an eternity (which sadly is an all to common occurence with mk3s). it'd be great to get some photos of your car and mine next to each other in may which incedently is exactly the same colour.

Good news she is home  ;D ;D ;D

I am one very lucky person the car drives beautifully all she needs is little TLC to bring her back to former glory.
I have a full service history with the car bills going back to the first 12000 service in 1985.

The car has only had one owner Mrs Farley and the garage who was selling the car on her behalf so at least she did get the money that is rightfully hers.

The car has only been service by two garages, the selling dealer for the first 4 /5 years and then by the garage that put the car on Ebay.

Simon I have now changed my signature, I didn't want to tempt fate by doing it before I got the car home ;)

Unfortunatley I am busy the next couple of weekends so I won't be able to make a meet at Mark's. Jason are you going to Audley End on Easter Sunday? I do quite fancy going to this as it is nice and local & the house is always worth a visit. I need to get the scratches sorted out in time for 3ma, assuming my car is not in the bodyshop how about meeting up for this run?

Barry I sympathise, why do you think I brought another 131 ???
