Hi, I am looking for performance / high lift camshafts for a fiat 131 2000cc twin cam.

Also any advice on which cams are best? Piper Cams, Kent cams, Cat cams etc

And does a higher lift equal better performance?

Any help much appreciated

Cams are only a small part of the package ou need to give all of the engine specs for a proper answer and where in the rev range you want the power

Ha Chris,

Have you done the bottom end yet?   Cheep compression hipe, use 1600 pistons in the 2000 with an uprated head gasket.  Don't go to mad on the cams or it will become a pain in traffic.

Roger is right as I had an x1/9 built that use to eat Starlet turbos but the power band of 6500 to 10500 rpm was a hard thing to drive in towns

I tried Toad's race engine on the road for a while, and that pulled from 3500, couldn't get the car  (called Pooh)  of the traffic lights without laying rubber or getting hooted for being slow.

I would think a nice spec, would be

1600 Pistons
Head gasket
fast road cams maybe 7000 ish peak       (Not race profiles)
A nice exhaust   (remember the Yanspeed is only meant for 150 tops @flywheel)
A pair of Webbers  I like down draught IDF's but what ever you can get.
Some BPR7EV  NGK plugs
A nice oil cooler would favourable.
Lighten the flywheel, or buy a lighter one
and the Integrale 230mm 8v clutch will after a re drill fit the 131 flywheel.
Its big, but you get a more controlled lunch and a normal clutch peddle feel.

Hi, what I have so far is:

New High compression pistons - domed and oversized 84.6mm
Fiat strada 130 abarth head gasket set
Twin 40 weber carbs, side draft - might upgrade to 45's
4 branch exhaust manifold
Fiat strada 130 abarth valves - 43.4mm
Kent cam valve springs
Vernier pulleys

Looking for a good fast road camshaft, something that will give good accerlation. I've been looking at Kent cams and Piper cams websites, but not sure which camshaft is best for me?

As someone has said there is camshafts on their for the 3500 to 8000 revs range so suspect they are more rally type one's.

I would like to get at least 150bhp to 170bhp out of the engine.

Sportman - my email address is: chrissy962@hotmail.co.uk
Could you email me some pics and details on your 130tc head.

Thanks

Chris,

I would offer the following:

1/ Remember "All the power is in the head".  So you need a full race head prep.

2/ Selection of  pistons rods and condors as well as the valves and the  valve springs , valve guides as well as camshafts must be in line with your planned top power and torque as well as RPM rage.

3/ Selection of proper rings is also very important.

3/ For engine with 150-160 HP you must expect the top RPM at well over 8K. For this to last more than one race you need forged rods con rods and pistons.

4/ Use only original 131 main shaft and make sure it is at nominal dimensions. Remember to clean it and never to machine it. If you have to machine it is junk (at least for this high performance engine)

5/ do not even think about this power without Weber 45's

I will be happy to assist with the valves . Please PM me if interested .

Miro
