well mark its dave here all the way up in meath ..i built this car back in 1999.. brought it down to waterford  one weekend to meet up with you & have a look at your project at the time .. i bougth this car from a farmer in letrim for 500euro .. it was FAR from rustfree at the time.. spent over a year re-building it .. i got the abarth panels from a guy in englang who had an unused kit from 1979.. the bonnet came from a man called mick woods( owner of several 131 abarths an 037 & a 124 abarth)this is a genuine works bonnet from his collection of spares at the time. the doors were new old stock purchased from middle barton garages in england. the disk break rear axel came out of an 1800 twin-cam , bougth it from a guy called brendan o byrne ( sure this guy MUST be registered on this site ).a couple of years after the car was built kevin doyle came up here one day to take a few snaps of the car and i let him bring her out for a drive .think he liked it . . i owned the car for 6  to 7  years  before i sold it on to willie carrick in bray.. a nice guy who always admired the car so gave him first refusel on it when she went up for sale..LOVED THIS CAR , told willie if the car EVER goes up for sale i get FIRST refusel to buy it back.. (will still hold you to that willie Wink).. i drove the car most days and only sold it on to build an RS200 , which i have since sold on to allow me to move on to my new project ... a MANTA 400..
still love 131s.. will have another one some day.. still regret not buying a GENUINE blue 131 ABARTH i was offered back in 1990  for ?12500... silly silly me Tongue

Hi Dave - I wondered would you spot this thread - Sure it's one of the most famous 131s in Ireland - It is even featured on an international Abarth website. I think u've mentioned most of the 131 fans in Ireland on that post although there are a lot more now than when we first met.

I certainly do remember my vist (and on to John Birmingham afterwards) and my spin in your car - Very generous of you. I remember the power steering particularly. I think you were looking for ?7000 at the time - A bargain now. Was it orange originally? - I thought you said it was black or maybe my memory is failing me. Anyway it is being cherished by its current owner and hopefully will be with us for many years.  Smiley

hi there kevin i" am afraid your memory is off on that on  .. the car was orignally orange with a black vinal roof.. johns car was the black one in navan..
i was very tempted to go down to kilarney  last weekend but since i dont own a 131 anymore i would have felt a bit like a gate crasher .. however hope it all went well .. looks like you got a good turn out &  some brilliant weather.. might make a spin down to the evening of  next years event ,just to have a look at the cars parked up .. cheers for now Smiley

Well i have to agree with you there, any car i went to look at thinking of buying always had cash to buy it with me, there seems to be some sour grapes over this car somehow because i heard the story more than once since i got my 131 sport, was that you at mosney in 2004 i spoke to? we had a black ta22 celica with us that day since sold on.
