Title: Return to work and... obviously... the questions
Post by: N. Dinis on November 25, 2012, 11:43:15 AM
Ok, as the title says, I'm back on my 131 duty, hopefully in wont take me annother year to get it back on the road...
What I want to do.....
My car is a ugly duck (s3) and I want to have a swan (Abarth stradale look).
The car is a 4 door, and I have moulds to make the kit.
I want to upgrade the rear suspension to 4 independent.
I'm thinking  on using Ford Sierra Diff.
Want to replace the mechanical fuel pump for a electric one.

So, did anyone already used this type of diferentials? What rear hubs should I use, Any compatible lower arms?

Lots of questions..... Any help?

Thanks

Annother thing that I've remembered is about the oil radiator, is it possible to use a Delta HF Turbo unit with the respective oil filter support?

I'm trying to install a Lancia Delta GT intake with carburator. Have anyone done this already?

This looks like a monologue but I'll keep on.. I've found the differential that I'm going to use, It's from a Ford Scorpio, comes with the axles for a rear bargain. I'm going to pick it up next week. Miro please check your pm box ;)

I will save you from talking to yourself here  ;) :D
Are you sure you want to use Ford parts in a Fiat? They were serious competitors once, you know? ;D I'm not sure everything will fit easely. I already found out that even Fiat Abarth parts don't fit that good...

Remember the Delta has front wheel drive. This means the carburator could have a different jet set-up as the 131 has.

Need a bodykit? I got one original.

I have the moulds for a almost complete car, only the trunk is missing, I'm trying to post photos but I can't upload them to imageshack... Any other server that you know?

You need to make the images smaller. Most computer programmes have an ability to do so. Put them in additional options and all should be fine.

Running LPG, interesting. My 131 is probably the only Fiat in Australia on gas.

 ???
you would like to do from an 4 door an 2 door abarth?
i think all is possible if you are a good mechanic and you found the parts!
that 'is a bigger problem as to make an rear independent suspension.

Yes, I once had a REALLY rusty 2 door racing (the donor of the engine) and I kept almost everything including the C pillars. I have a set of front doors made in fibreglass and moulds made from the panels in the picture for a full 131 stradale look. I want to do this in stages and I want to start exactly with the rear suspension. This car will look like a Frankenstein to you because it's a 4 door S3. I have my own plan for the car, it will not be a perfect or detailed replica. I'm not that patient, neither have cash enough to make it the way I liked. I like to learn from my mistakes and try to do as much as I can by myself. So it will have to be road legal, seats won't be original (I'm planning to use a pair of Recaro's that I have here that came from a Delta II. I'm still deciding if I'm going to install a rollbar or not, because for our MOT purposes it will have to have all the seats available

Today I spent the morning on the car trying to figure out why it wouldn't start, and the problem seems to be caused by the fuel pump, It still creates vacuum but not enough pressure to deliver fuel to the carburettor (sucking in the pipe it reached my mouth.... tastes really bad by the way.....  :P ) So, where can I find a new proper fuel pump? I haven't opened my one yet, so I don't know if it's possible to fix it and if it's worth it... I thought about aplying a electric one... I need opinions please...

I've opened my fuel pump and I was shocked with the results

So I've cleaned all up rebuild everything and putted it back in place... And then I though about that pump state and gave up trying to run from fuel tank... Got a jerry can, drilled 2 little holes on it, attached 2 pipes and connected it to the fuel pump, filled the pipes and jerrycan with gas and there it goes, engine is running again :) The problem should be in the old gasoline (1 year) that damaged the hoses and obstruct the line... This leaves me with annother problem.... Solution for this? New hoses and new fuel tank?

But as I just can't stop, I started grouping material for the later on Abarth look... And here's a few parts together....
I was planning to use this for the window elevator... But the position of the handle would be worst than in the stratos as J. Clarkson said in the Lancia episode of Top Gear.... So tomorrow I'll look for a pair of electric elevators to try to sort that one out:

fibre door
(http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss114/ndinis666/P101212_14580002.jpg)

doors small bits and rear lights
(http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss114/ndinis666/P101212_14580001.jpg)

The problem with the lights relays is also solved finnaly :)

Triangles are on place, windows running in their place so all I have to do is create a little support to center the window in the elevator :) Next step is applying the jerrycan in the rear passenger seat and drive the car to the mot. Then I car start with the big steps.... Let's say that this is a warm up ;)

Annother day some more news. I was a bit worried about the interiors because I couldn't  find them anywhere, also one of the dual headlights support was missing but today everyone showed up. Or almost, I just can't find the door locks and their respective handle, has well as the hinges :S

Today there are no pictures but my car is ready for MOT. Hopefully Monday I'll get there :) Pray for me so real work can go on.... This weekend I've been helping a friend of mine preparing a argenta volumex for MOT too. If all goes well Monday we will drive together :)

Yep, that's the plan ;) The car ended up to stay at home because the Tee connector of the water hoses in the cylinder head broke :( Got to find a new one. Here are 2 photos about my inspiration ...

Guys I need help, the car is finnaly running, but the water temperature in the dash rises to max in a few minutes, the strange about this is that there is no water pressure in the tubes, I can open the radiator and there everything looks fine.... So what can it be? air in the circuit? the car was sideways when I fill it....

Sorry to insist but I'm freakin out here :S Is it possible that the water sensor in the head got "lazy" and opens too soon?

Title: Re: Return to work and... obviously... the questions
Post by: mirafioriman on December 19, 2012, 08:11:47 PM
Do you have access to a thermometer to check the actual temperature? It's possible there is a fault with the temperature sender or gauge.

Title: Re: Return to work and... obviously... the questions
Post by: N. Dinis on December 19, 2012, 08:16:09 PM
I do also think that the sender should be the problem, but it's weird it works so smooth until the top... it takes a while... +/- 4 minutes

Is this a standard Fiat twin cam engine with one temperature sensor in the head or a Lancia unit with two temperature sensors?

Suspect you have an air lock. Remove the hose from the top of the radiator and pour coolant down into the head till it is full then reconnect.

Title: Re: Return to work and... obviously... the questions
Post by: N. Dinis on December 19, 2012, 11:31:33 PM
The engine is a standard Fiat 131 Racing unit, I've thought the same you did Sev... Just didn't know how to solve it, because there was almost no water in the heater radiator

Title: Re: Return to work and... obviously... the questions
Post by: N. Dinis on December 20, 2012, 05:32:04 PM
Sev you where right, it was air in the circuit...  Problem solved... So, everything looked fine and so let's go to MOT.... Yeah right.... Like it was going to be kind to me... The car idles fine, on neutral rev's up nicely, but on the road starts to bump and shuts down like it ran out of fuel.... Start it again and it's always the same.... With this one coil is fried....

Back here... The car is back home after one night in the middle of nowhere  :'( And the problem is still waiting to be solved... Any ideas? All the fuel pipes are new, I'm using a Jerrycan as a fuel tank..... its almost full. Is it possible that this problem is caused by a lack of response of the fuel pump?

Title: Re: Return to work and... obviously... the questions
Post by: N. Dinis on December 25, 2012, 04:23:01 AM
It seems that the fuel pump is the problem. I already have a new one here so tomorrow I'll install it and see how it goes. I can't wait to have this car properly on the road
