Hi Gents,
Not been on for a while and glad to see the site is going great guns.
You'll be pleased to hear I've been using my yellow 131 regularly and it doesn't miss a beat.

I plan to buy a new master cylinder and I've found a load of them on ebay-many from the USA for the 131 which was branded Brava over there.  Problem is there are so many different part numbers being quoted.

Question is: do you know what the right part number is for the one on my 131? And do you know if one for a Brava would fit?
My car is a 1979 131 1300cc 4 door. It has the pushrod engine.

I thought I'd ask the experts on this site.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately Fiat used to use the same part on different models but gave the part a different number every time they used it on a different model. Even worse, Fiat never produced a cross-reference parts list. There was a guy (called Ash, I think) working for the Fiat garage in Camden many years ago who was an organic cross reference parts list!? Shocked You could ask him any part such as "brake master cylinder for 131 1300" and he would not only give you the correct part number straight off the top of his head but also give you the part numbers for the same part used on other Fiat models.? Shocked?

I am only guessing here, but I'd say that the brake master cylinder on all the 131 models is the same one. And probably the same on Fiat 132, possibly 124 and maybe even 128. I wouldn't have thought you'd need to buy one from the USA either as I am sure they are available in this country or Yagmur could send you one from Turkey.

they're available from italy also, try metelli, ferodo, lpr and other aftermarket parts manufacturers. i bought metelli couple months ago for 20e.
btw, brake master cylinder IS the same for almost all fiats of that era, 124.125, 128, 131, 132, argenta. also for lada 2101-2102-2103-2104-2105-2106-2107 series. this is from my personal experience. there's some diference in position of pipe for rear brakes, it can be on top or in front end of cylinder but nothing that can't be solved in 10 minutes with basic tools.

here's a pic of brake master cilinder removed from my lada that worked for 250.000 km, and a box from new lpr, made in italy.
all of you fiat fans out there, judge for yourselves

Hi
Thanks everyone for all your advice and contacts. I guess I was a bit confused because some of the pictures I saw of these had the hole of the pipe for the rear brakes at the front (tip) whereas others I've seen have the pipe hole on top towards the front. So, I thought there must be many different types. But djape1977 has clarified this.
However, how would I sort this out if I bought one that had the hole at the top whereas my pipe comes out of the front. I'd need to bend the pipe somehow? Would it not pinch it so no fluid gets through? Or would I need to make up some new pipe?
Thanks for your tips.
Peter

just bend the pipe to fit your new cylinder. do it by hand, carefully so that bend has the largest possible radius. don't use plyers, they might pinch the pipe. if you need to make a small radius bend, use something round to bend the pipe around, again by hand. brake pipes might be made of steel and prone to cracking due to corrosion or simply old age. if the're on the other hand made of copper or aluminum, then it's much easyer. don't start this job on a sathurday afternoon because if you damage the brake line than you're in trouble till monday.
today i changed rear brake line on my lada because i cracked the pipe trying to unscrew rear brake cylinder. fortunately, brake pipes are readyly available around here, copper ones are around 3e per meter.

btw, oil pressure sender switch (thing that turns on the red light for oil pressure) from your alfa 156 2.5 v6 is exactly the same as for fiat twincam in your 131, or for that matter any fiat twincam engine

Thanks Djape1977
I presume the screw bit on the end of the pipe that screws into the master cylinder threads will fit all the different master cylinders, be it the one with the hole in the front or the one with the hole on the top?
I see you live in Belgrade-I used to live in Zabreb when I was a little boy. I still remember all the Yugo 600s over there.
Thanks

same screw tread on all types of fiat/zastava/lada cylinders.

unfortunately, Belgrade and Zagreb are no longer in the same country...
