Even points are good but it is setting them that people have trouble with

There's no magic to setting up points and a points system can work well. But points will need regular adjustment to work at their best. They are also limited to the amount of current they can 'sink' therefore limited to the strength of the spark they will produce and as they get pitted the situation gets worse. They are also limited to how fast you can open and close so about 8000 RPM on a four cylinder engine is their limit. Once you have more than 4 cylinders things get worse and manufacturers had to use twin point setups to get them to work reliably at higher RPMs.   But a well set up points system will produce sufficient spark to run a twin cam just as well as the 131 Sport electronic system but the points will need to be replaced and adjusted many times before the 131 Sport's magnetic pickup will need to be replaced.

Fitting points is part of a cars maintenance and even when they do give trouble you can generally engineer them to get going again but with the pickup or module in Electronic you best hope you have good reception  Roll Eyes but I do have an older Fiat that had a factory upgrade to electronic to let it rev to 10500rpm as the points were limited to 8500 rpm but how often would you drive to these limits.... but as they say keep it simple and less can go wrong  Grin Grin Grin

Get the 131 down here and we give it a seeing to but 400cc less and only 3bhp less  Shocked Shocked just remember it is the original of the sports species....

You can plow a paddock with the torque of a 2 litre but a 1.6 wouldn't pull a sailor off your sister!
