Dual Weber IDF 40 Tuning

Guys, My car is running really poorly. Black smoke and popping from exhaust. I think my carbs need to be adjusted. I'm not sure how to do it. Can anyone offer any advice? It is a 1977 131. 2 Liter block with an 1800 head. It has the dual idf 40's. Any ides??

There are several things that cause this problem with your car assuming you have everything tried yes the carbs may be out of balance you can buy a balancer on ebay but another way to do it is use a piece of half inch pipe and listen to the induction sound of no. 2&3 you would need your engine to idle as low as possible for a clearer sound , adjust the balance screw beneath the idle screw mark the screw position before you start just in case you have another problem ie tight tappet settings is she spitting up through any of the carbs.

My car runs very bad as well, but only on? low rpm. I asked a Weber specialist (known as the Weber pope) here in germany how much it should be to have them adjusted. 300-500 Euro

Wow, that's expensive!  I am no expert but if you were closer I'd do it for a cup of coffee. Assuming the car has been running OK at some time with the same carbs, then the jetting is likely to be correct so you simply need to adjust the idling mixture screws and balance the carb throttles. Does your car have downdraught IDF carbs of sidedroughts?   (DCOE)

Just seen this,

   Remember the idle jets pick up dirt very easily on IDF and DCOE Carbs,  Take them out pull the jet from the holder and blow them out, one for each choke.
