Title: GTT 500V
Post by: ratso on March 30, 2010, 11:46:46 AM
Anyone know what happened to Kim Kirks 131 Racing. It was class leader throughout the late 70's early 80's. Kim was from, and still is I think, Exeter in Devon.
It was one hell of a car.

Hi Sid
It's nice to see that she might still be around, not sure about the pink bit though lol.
She was outragously fast when I worked on her back in the early 80's and we spent a lot of time setting the whole car up for rallies. A beast of a machine and stayed on the leader board for a good few years in the capable hands of Kim.

Dave how can you tell if the car is sorn?

The date of liability is in the future and it says sorn not due so I'm making an assumption that that means that it is currently sorned.

I may of course be wrong.

Probably on its way to an event and back home again afterwards..? ??? Think we would have seen it around by now...?

Mark - You live in the best part of the country to spot 131s. Have you spotted as many as Jackie has yet..? ;)

If its of any interest to anybody, Kim Kirk was at my house redoing my TV aerials a couple months ago. He was amazed to see my computer room was awash with 131 stuff, (either that or he quietly thought i was sad..lol) we had a long chat about the old days, 131 sports, ford axles, and Sidwell St Motors (Fiat dealers at the time nr his business, but now relocated) then I showed him this website on my computer.
He was impressed so many people still follow 131's, I hinted to him how pleased you guys would be if he were to register and tell some tales of 131's etc but he was a little reluctant. He had told me that he (thinks) he has a full set of choc-brown rear seats stashed away (taken out of a brand new 131 sport years ago) somewhere, as well as some other parts, but I guess he's too busy to go rummaging about and get sales going.

Nice posting - Tell him he would be totally welcome if he joined the forum- I'm sure he would be very interesting. Also I want that interior if he can find time to get it out...! ;)

Sidwell Motors - In Exeter..?

When I was "restoring" my first 131 Sport this dealer was great for old parts - I had a boot lid and rear panel delivered for ?70 and a pair of genuine Sport  shocks for ?20.00. This was back in 1995 but I'd say that even then, they were one of the few Fiat dealers who had not chucked everything to do with 131s. ::)

This car was featured in ccc magazine a good few years ago,
also as a little bit of info a friend of mine bought the original LSD axle of him at the time.
