Hi All

Hope this will give some inspiration to some of the other Member overhauling Brakes and Suspension!!
Me and a good? friend of mine Paul did a full overhaul on my Front and Rear Suspension and Brakes on EVW 10 years ago but only did a few photos of it all, Prices back then were a bit cheaper than now a days so prices now maybe much more !!! , I will be overhauling again in the near future but this time I will be up rating? brakes and suspension all round with bigger brakes and hopefully independent suspension on the rear with rear disks, I will be doing photographic history this time so will post this on the site as and when I do this, there are a few members that have done this all ready so it will help when I come to do this my self !!

Front and Rear Suspension

Me and my friend totally stripped down the rear suspension the same as one of our members Tex is doing at the moment. We? replaced both rear dampers with a company called Leda Suspension Ltd,? on the? rear Suspension I used adjustable dampers with standard fitting, on the front Suspension I gave the above company my old struts and they were replaced with up rated? front struts which were much harder then normal and when tested felt really firm and held the road really well. This company actually rebuilt the Front and Rear Suspension I believe as they were a company that made there own suspension.? At the same time I replaced all springs with up rated springs which were much harder and lowered EVW by 40 mm all round. Which also improved the handling? loads and also made the front end much lighter and you could also feel every bump in the road !!!. I bought these springs from a company called Prosport In Leicestershire I have invoices and part numbers for all these. Also while overhauling front Suspension? I? also replaced both Stub Axles and hubs and both Front Track Arms. Replaced all ball joints and CV boots replaced both tie rod ends and over hauled steering rack. Some of this was overhauled during the Engine Rebuild.!! I am sure when we were fitting some new bushes to the Anti Roll Bar while over hauling it we had some issues with the bushes squeaking Huh I will checked with my friend to see what we did to resolve this !!

Next we replaced rear bushes on trailer arms, and all nuts and bolts were replaced all round on upper and lower trailer arms, all these parts were bought from a Fiat Dealership in Colchester D. Salmon Cars Ltd. I also replaced the gasket? to rear diff and replaced transmission fluid with recommended fluid. Pan hard Rod was only overhauled and painted and replaced.

Rear Brakes

Next we overhauled rear brakes. Brakes lines were all replaced with braided lines all round. Both wheel cylinders were replaced and new brake shoes with new fitting kits were fitted. And New Drums Fitted So all rear brakes were totally over hauled with all new parts.

Front Brakes

Front brake calipers were both exchanged for replacement reconditioned calipers, the old ones were taken in exchange from a local motor factor Motaquip. Brake lines were replaced with braided hoses. Standard Front discs were replaced with Tarox 20 grooved? discs for Fiat 131 Sport,? X19 also Front Pads were replaced with Tarox pads. These were bought from Burton Power, Ilford, Essex. I also had a lot of Engine work done from an engineering? company next door to these by a guy called Charlie who specialized in Fords !! that?s another story !!

Front Brakes Calipers and Rear Brake Drums were all painted with a special Heat Brake Paint colour? blue also bought from Burton Power

Front Struts and Rear Dampers were painted in Tractor Ford Blue, Rear Suspension Upper and Lower Trailer Arms were all cleaned with a wire brush? on a drill, and painted also with Tractor Ford Blue which was bought from an agriculture tractor company Ernest Doe. Rear Suspension Diff was also cleaned? by wire brush and was painted with Black smooth Hammerite Paint.

So overall, all brakes and Suspension have been totally overhauled with new parts all round !!

I hope this will help other member overhauling Brakes and Suspension and give some kind of idea of the cost? to overhaul all these parts !! Taking in consideration the price of Parts now !!!! To back in 98!!

Thanks Mark...very helpful. Obviously some of the work was cosmetic and some for better handling...just hard sometimes to get the balance and know how far to go..like the brake lines, all new bolts and bushes??
