Title: All Ireland Classic Fiat event - Sept 2012
Post by: kev131 on July 09, 2012, 09:19:46 PM
The annual All Ireland Classic Fiat Event has been arranged and it's in a brand new venue for 2012.

Dates: 28th & 29th September

Venue: Taking advantage of some of Ireland's best scenery and touring routes the event is based in Glengariff Co Cork in the Glengariff Eccles Hotel. A dedicated parking area will be reserved for all attendees.

http://eccleshotel.com/

Rates: For 2012 we have our best ever rate of ?50 per person sharing for dinner bed & breakfast with no single supplement for the first 8 bookings on that basis. There is also no requirement to attend both nights - Come for one or both. The Eccles is a 3 star hotel overlooking Bantry Bay.

Weekend Format: The event will be very informal with the emphasis on the social and driving aspects. The driving route on Saturday will either be the Ring of Kerry or the Beara Peninsula which incorporates the infamous Healy Pass. In 2009 this was the scene of a low flying Fiat 127 Sport - The record of 20 feet off the ground is there to be broken.  ;)

How to book: Ring Geraldine or her team on 027 63003. Mention the Classic Fiat event. Any questions please PM me. All Classic Fiats and their owners welcome. Our record of 20 cars attending could easily be broken this year so book early.

Lending hands and only a bruised ego at the end of it all... :)

Enzo - It's just the time of year to tease Sean about his off roading ambitions.  ;)

This was driving the Healy Pass at our Fiat event in 2009 and there was absolutely zero damage - The grass was very soft.  :D

Why don't you come as you missed 3MA12 Jason?  :)

Some more pictures of the superb Classic Fiats that reside in the Emerald Isle...these from 2010 in Connemara.

Looks like a great event.  :D
But these events always clash with major Lancia events in the UK  :-[ http://www.lanciamotorclub.co.uk/AGM/agm.htm (http://www.lanciamotorclub.co.uk/AGM/agm.htm)
Is someone trying to tell me something?  ??? :-\ :-[  ;D

It must feel like your marque loyalty is being subconciously tested Theo.  ;)

The last weekend in Sept is quite a popular one for end of season events - It's an attempt to avoid holiday clashes and the onset of Autumnal weather. :)

I take it you will be attending the Lancia AGM? It does look like a well organised and structured event. However, any time a hotel can offer the chance of winning an Ipad2 to all bookers ...suggests an expensive event? How much does it cost?  :)

an expensive event? How much does it cost?  :)

Well it certainly ain't cheap!

Package rates

The full weekend includes Friday night dinner, Friday night B&B, the driving tour, the Gala Dinner on
Saturday, Saturday night B&B. The one night package includes the driving tour, the Gala Dinner on
Saturday, Saturday night B&B. NB: Sunday lunch is not included in the standard package ? see below.
All residential bookings will be entered into a draw for a new iPad2. The winner will be drawn at the AGM.

Single-occupancy room for the full weekend package ? 240
Single-occupancy room for the one night package ? 135
Double-occupancy room for the full weekend package ? 315
Double-occupancy room for the one night package ? 175

I haven't booked for the Lancia AGM yet and as I'll be going to the Gamma Consortium AGM and Rally two weeks beforehand (already booked that one http://www.gammaconsortium.com/meetings/events.htm#2012_Rally_and_AGM_-_14-16_September (http://www.gammaconsortium.com/meetings/events.htm#2012_Rally_and_AGM_-_14-16_September)) maybe I shouldn't be going to another Lancia meeting so soon after. What have I done with those Irish Ferries special offers.....  ???

Let me know if you are seriously considering going Theo and I'll see about dusting off one if the Specials :o ;D 8) :D Or I might give the Abarth another airing (better for the Healy Pass me thinks ;)) as I'm currently using my yellow S as my daily driver  :o 8)

It's great to see the support for this event each year - If anyone has any suggestions for activities please let me know. If we have visitors from the UK we could make it a three night event to make it worth the trip.

The first time we went to the Healy Pass was in 2007 at the very first 3MA07. There were 3 Abarths there - here is some video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHsYCWzC0-A&feature=plcp

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DszBJNKzy8k&feature=plcp

I think that day on the Healy Pass was the highlight of the event - What a view of the cars in the distance and the sound of the exhausts bouncing off the surrounding mountains....intoxicating! ;D

Hi Kev,

I would love to go, as you know your 131 needs to do a trip to Ireland.

Unfortunatley I have something on at work which I can't get out of, Thursday  27th and Friday 28th. I have had a quick look at ferries however by time I get to Wales and then drive to Cork I think Saturday will nearly over.

It is a shame but maybe another time - got anything planned for next summer ???

You can relax Phil - I've got my own now. No longer will you wake up at a 3MA and wonder if you will find your keys or a blank cheque! ;D

Yes shame you can't make it although things change - Dates change all the time where I work!

Nothing planned for next year but if a decision isn't made about 3MA13 soon a proposal to have a venue tinged with green could be proposed! Was speaking to Brensports recently and he's just back from a trip to Donegal. It's a vast county with the highest cliffs in Ireland and great empty driving roads.  :)

I am very much overdue a trip to Ireland.

If my cousin is in the country, I will try and get over for this event as he would most definitely be participating.

Lucky you!
After over 32 years of driving to work this is now my 'daily transport' to work  :-[

So the chance for a long drive to Ireland in the Fiat is looking very inviting...  ;)

I'm sure I've had an email from Irish Ferries claiming ?79 each way. But even their 'standard' prices come in at ?95 each way so still under ?200 for the return journey.  The problem with ferries to Ireland is the crossing times, they are so inconvenient! So it'll mean crossing over to Ireland on Thursday 27th September. If the afternoon crossing is taken then it'll mean an overnight stay somewhere not too far from Rosslare. There's a good and cheap Travelodge in Waterford that I used before.  For the return it could be a late Sunday crossing or better still a Monday crossing so that's 4 nights/5 days in Ireland; just what you wanted Jason  ;) ;D

Just had an update from the hotel - Another 6 rooms are booked making a total of 18....leaving 3 available from our reserved allocation of 21.

If anyone is intending to book still, please can you do so by Friday night (21st) after which point the rooms will be released to the general public. That does not mean that rooms will not be available after Friday - It's just that they might not be.

Looking forward to this and hopefully the weather will be kind.... :)

Looking at the map tonight it looks like we can have a new route invovling Sheep's Head and Mizen Head ....rather than retracing the steps of previous years. Unless anyone knows why we should avoid these routes (eg roadworks etc) I'd like to suggest that we have some different scenery and roads. I'll have handouts of the following on the day.

Fri 28th

?   Arrive at hotel and registration. Note dedicated parking area for Fiats.
?   Fill up with petrol for departure next day
?   Dinner at 7.30 pm
?   Socialise

Sat 29th   Depart 10.30

Leave hotel heading south towards Bantry.
?   Head out of Bantry on the N71 signposted Skibbereen
?   Approx 2/4 miles beyond Bantry turn right for Sheep?s head. Follow signs for Glenlough and Ballyroon where we will stop to stretch our legs.
?   Return via Kilcrohane, Anakista to Durrus.
?   At Durras turn right for Mizen Head. (R591)
?   Head for Toormore, Goleen and Crookhaven where we will stop again for a break and hopefully a cup of tea.
?   Return home via Schull and Ballydehob (R592).
?   At Ballydehob take the main road (N71) back to Bantry and Glengarriff.
?   Dinner at 8.0pm
?   Socialise (live music at the hotel)

Sun 30th
               Breakfast
?   Use of hotel facilities
?   Depart for home

A few suggestions to help ensure the event runs smoothly:

Please fill up with petrol on Friday night. This will avoid Saturday morning queues at petrol stations and cars getting left behind.
Bring a map of the area so that separated cars can catch up with the main group. We generally play follow the leader but it's difficult to keep a long convoy altogether all of the time.
Have some mobile phone numbers for fellow participants in case of trouble.  :)

Well the All Ireland Classic Fiat Event is over for another year and 2012 was our most successful event ever judged by the number of cars attending. Our previous record from 2010 of 20 cars was beaten by 3 although 3 of the attendees were linked with Fiat rather than actually being Fiats. See if you can spot all three from the pictures. :)

Big welcome to our first timers with special mention to the X1-9 group, our first Fiat Dino, our first Ritmo Abarth...and our first attendees from Hungary (Johnny, Atilla and Gabor). We also had some first time cars from regular attendees. Steve's very special Fiat 132 2000 recently imported from Croatia is probably the best 132 in Ireland now. A one owner (Doctor) car recently re-commissioned and now getting a new lease of life. Two tone paint jobs on X1-9s are nothing new and Mike honoured the event with his special beige (sorry gold) and primer special edition. ;D

The hotel looked after us very well with our specially cordoned off area for parking, great food, a very friendly service and bar staff that kept serving into the small hours. They are really set up well to handle groups like ours.

The Saturday drive to Sheep's head (group photo) and later Mizen head (Ireland's most southerly point) were blessed with one of the best weather days of the year with spectacular views, colour and visibility. The day's timings worked out great and got us back to the hotel on time for the Munster rugby match, beers and another tasty dinner. :)
