Some queries folks , firstly ,
1. What size brake discs did the Abarth come with as Standard? they seem to be different on the 2 here.
2. What oil should a Stradale use in the engine? Obviously not synthetic? 15w40? 10w 50?
3. What would you suggest for valve/tappet clearance? Have them at 0.35-0.40 at the mo , but find them a bit rattley when warm?

Any suggestions welcome!

Tristan, I've been on my "sick bed" for the last week, so I'm sorry if my response hasn't been as quick as you would have wished. Also, if you want others to reply, please don't ask one person (in this case me) for the reply, as others tend to stand back. Wink

I'm away for the next few days on 'Christmas Duties' but as soon as I'm able I shall answer your queries.

Disc sizes don't surprise me Roll Eyes The Stradale is probably small than the Group 4.

In passing though I shall say 'why not synthetic?'. As long as it gives you the right XXwXX numbers and wear performance I see no reason why it shouldn't be used, especially in a higher performance engine such as the Abarth. In fact, I think I have synthetic in my Abarth - but I'll check as soon as I can and get back to you.

What was the rattle problem T??

my sarcastic comment wasn't aimed at you personally Si , just at the lack of responses / suggestions in general .

Older engines are designed for the older oils with high detergent properties , at best a part synthetic would  be the most you'd use . We have found , and concurring with oil suppliers and FIAT/Lancia Specialists like Tanc Barratt , and more , that the newer oil tends to come thru the seals , and out the exhaust pipe! Plus because it's designed for newer , non - "dirty" engines , i.e. ones that don't produce much carbon , that it hasn't got the "cleaning" power of older , mineral based oils.

Hope you're feeling better now , mate!
