At least you won't have to fork out that much again. Perhaps we should have a way of storing these useful web addresses on the forum so the next time a member needs a spring they know where to look.

I wonder if they have the specs for Simon's Abarth?

Dave i reckon they would be able to sort Simon out with new spring no problem & thats a good idea about storing web addresses "Theo!!"

Sid,

I wanted to post the text below ( which I will anyway) , but now know where to turn for springs ....

Will let you know the result  ;D ;D ;D

Miro

"Guys,

I am am however having a problem with the springs:

Both rear and front springs have a large ( old style) internal diameter. In addition the front strut housings have grease nipple on its side effectively forcing the large spring diameter. ( We estimate that that safest would be 100mm inside diameter of the spring . The rear can probably accept smaller diameter spring , but not less than 70-80 mm.
I actually would like to have the rear of a big diameter as in the original ( does anybody know the exact Stradale/Corsa rear and front spring internal diameters ?)

My knowledge of the springs is marginal. I have dug up Original 131 Abarth Stradale data on the springs. They should be:

FRONT
Fiat (Abarth) part number: 4335641
Height of spring under load of 3156 + / - 127 N (322 + /- 13 kG) = 270 mm
Minimum load to compress it to the height of 194 mm = 4459 N (455kG)

REAR
Fiat (Abarth) part number: 4151719
Height spring under a load of 2793 +/- 127 N (285 +/- 13 kG) = 310 mm
Minimum load for the height of 232 mm = 4067 N (415kG)

The problem is that current most current catalogs list them either by application ( no use ) or by uncompressed length and diameter rate in (N/mm) and weight. This is totally useless, or at least not easily translatable.

Does anyone know how to translate the original Fiat data or what springs cane be used (modified as replacement for 131 Abarth).

Does anybody know what Fiat springs could be used modified to fit ?

Miro"

Eugene,

I think it's a excellent idea Dave.Would save on a lot of unnecessary posts. ::)Eugene

I have a suggestion : why don't you put one more category called "links " and enter links to such places like this one. However entering links should entered only by administrators ,  otherwise we will get a lot of junk in it  and it will lose its sense !

Miro

PS:  I have written to them asking about Stradale and Gr4. springs. Will post the result.

OK guys, a new section called Connections (http://131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?board=10.0)  has been added to the forum. Use it to post links to other websites and suppliers such as the spring people - Nick, please be the first poster in the new section. Miro, sorry, I don't like the idea of "administrators only" section as that creates more work for the administrators including me and I don't like more work!  ;) ;D We can moderate the section retrospectively and remove  any posts that don't belong there. Please keep the posts in the Connections (http://131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?board=10.0) section short and precise and avoid replying to messages in that section.

OK, I'm asking, I'm asking....  ???  ;)

Do you remember when the forum was first created (by your goodself Theo) we did have discussions about the merits of multiple subject matter headings or just a single heading for all postings - Your view was to have a single heading ala the Fiat Motor Club GB forum in its previous form - You did come around to 3 or 4 at the first re-design and then progressively added more as the forum developed and gathered momentum. I'm not sure if you changed your mind ..or just acceded to the perceived demand :)

Now that we have 10 sections I'd suggest that we have more than enough as I'd personally like to keep it simple and to avoid the multiple options that some motoring fourms provide with the result that the majority are ignored.  :)

Yes I was and to a certain extend still am, a believer in the "one large bucket" type of forum.  I like simple things that tend to go well with my simple brain  :-\  ;D and as far as a general discussion type forum I think a single large bucket is the best way to go. But this forum has grown far beyond my expectations and it's frequented by people who are both logical and knowledgeable and well up to the task of using the correct sections for their posts. So you might say that as far a this forum is concerned I have changed my mind  ;) Mind you, the "Down to business" section could be used to post links to businesses such as the suppliers of springs but I think the new "Connections" section can be used to post links to other interesting websites as well, not just to suppliers' websites.

Now don't get me started on the FMC forum! Everyone was asking for multiple sections and now they have them they don't like them and "for sale" and "events" postings end up in "General discussion". Someone even posted in "General Discussion" telling people he put a car for sale in the "For sale and wanted" section!  >:(  There's a lot of changes happening on the FMC so maybe someone else will take over the website and forum....
