Just a quick one !!
Went into local motor factors where they do general key cutting and asked if they would make copy's of the 131 keys but was told since the modern keys come with chips now they dont bother with car key's ant more.
So i assume best place is a local Fiat dealer to get spare keys cut for me then,??

We have an old fashioned locksmith here and they have cut 130 and 131 keys for me cheaply. They even had the blanks in stock. They worked too which is not always the case ::)

there is a decent locksmith i know who made a key for a 131 sport ignition i had but it cost ?50 for the service.

50 ? for a damned ignition key :o?! I would rather hot-wire the bloody thing than to pay that much :).

I paid 5 euros for both keys (ignition & trunk) about a year ago and of course they work fine as it is not nuclear physics to copy those keys...

the ignition didnt have a key so he made one for it what was i to do? hotwire my ass! & ?50 wasnt considered much when i got it done

Don't LADA use the same key pattern as the 131 and most older Fiats ::) ::) ::).Eugene

Now Eugene you cant put Lada bits into a Fiat  :o :o it will only cause problems but they are listed under the same part number but you can get the blanks on Ebay and a house key cutting machine can copy them for you  ;) ;)

since i'm a locksmith actually, i feel that i must say a thing or two on the matter, although car locks are not my specialty but rather safes, safety deposit boxes and high security doors:

yes, some old fiats do use the same keys as lada and, for that matter, zastava also.
for example, 132 and zastava use different key blank, although on the first glance they appear to be same. lada blanks are easyest to modify to suit fiat 131 or 132, even whole cilinders from lada can be fitted into 131 and 132 door locks. zastava or yugo locks or cilinders can also be modified to fit fiat locks. for fiat 128 they don't even need to be modified.
making a key for a lock (or ignition barrel for that matter) is a fiddly job and 50e is not too much for it, since regular price for that job in my part of the world would be 25e, keeping in mind that 400e per month is considered a decent pay around here.

key blanks for fiat/lada/zastava are around 1,5e a piece so i would expect that copy of your key shouldn't cost more than 3-5euros anywhere in the world. they're cut on the same machines as your average house keys so pretty much any locksmith in the world has such machine.

So ebay for blanks then.  Failing that a decent locksmith should be able to help.
In defence to the motor factors shop he did say if i sourced blanks he would try and copy them.
would a UK fiat dealer supply blanks then ? or is the 131  key pattern too old

forget the dealers. they're not interested in anything that's 30 or more years old.
