Hi All

Try your local motor factors. Not sure about the 1.8 but I used to get 2 litre ones by Gates pretty easily recently.

Hi All
Managed to get the 146 teeth belt but it`s a little to big so will try the 144 tomorrow ! I thought the 1.6 and 1.8 TC was the same block and head but it`s not !!!!!
Maybe my engine isn`t a 1.8 after all  Cry

Perhaps it's a 1.6? The bore was the same I think. I know the two litre is definitely taller than the 1.6, not sure but the 1.8 must be in the middle?

I did own a 1.8 twin cam once (fitted in a 132 1800 ES) but I have sold that now.

Think the 1.6 and 1.8 have the same stroke . Difference must be in the head ! I`m confused -will do some reading in the weekend on my boat  Wink

What's the number stamped into the block near the oil filter housing, that will tell you what your engine is. If the belt is just a bit too big, you could have the wrong idler bearing, there are 2 different sizes available but it's not often mentioned. IIRC the 1.6 and 1.8 blocks are the same height, the bore was increased from 80 to 84mm, but the bores had to be offset to allow for the increased diameter. Which is why the valves aren't aligned with the center of the bore on 1 & 4.

After some research:

The 1585cc, 1756cc and 1995cc twin cams all have an 84mm bore. The stroke is different between them, 1585cc is the shortest, 1995cc the longest.

Twin cams were available with a different bore size but these are fitted to other models such as the 124.

In the UK the 131 was available with the 1585cc and 1995cc twin cams, although I did see a 1300 T/C 131 once I think, although I was a child at the time so I could be wrong Roll Eyes

In the UK the 132 came with a 1756cc and 1995cc twin cam. It also came with a 1592cc engine with an 80mm bore, I've not seen / owned one but perhaps it was available in the UK.

As you bought new 84mm pistons it must be an 84mm bore engine and therefore a 1585cc, 1756cc or a 1995cc engine. The stroke options are therfore: 71.5mm, 79.2mm or 90mm

I would be interested on how the measurements differ between an 1800cc and a 2000cc engine Smiley

Hi all
Measured the stroke today it was 73 mm with a bore of 84 mm and domed pistons - and the 144 teeth belt fitted perfect .
 I`m very confused now
