That's right Mark. I went to have a look at it in Leicester and went for a spin. Twin 45's. cams, etc. Engine went really well. I saw him wind it up to 7000rpm in 2nd before it tailed off. Quite impressive.

Hi guys - This one is a mystery to me - It would be nice if the owner came on the forum although I do remember some questions about it's authenticity as a Sport at the time of the sale... Huh

Yes, I remember this one too.

There was an issue regarding whether it could be called a 'genuine' Sport if I remember correctly, but it sold well.  Cool

Not sure where it is now though, and I don't think the 'new' owner is registered on here yet. Smiley

The last (and first as it happens) time I saw this car was on Sunday 8th of June 2003 at Gaydon  Wink

The owner at the time was the guy on the right standing nearest 'his' car. Can't remember his name but I think might have been Jim. I talked to him at length about the car and he had basically built it from bits to the lovely state that it was. I remember talking to him about the colour and he claimed that he thought some early cars were white. The 'base' color of the car as he bought it was white so he decided to spray it white after the restoration. I thought at the time that the car was probably reshelled into a white two door base model before he acquired it. It looked and sounded very good with its home-made large bore exhaust system.

Well it looks good even if it was a two door pushrod originally. Stickers on the rear flanks instead of the alloy badges and looks like the holes for the black side trims have been filled or didn't the 1300 L have these ? can't remember

Hi David, the missing black side trims are not a telltale sign for a car being a Sport. Actually, there are some Sports/Racings out there with filled trim lines (body filler - looks ugly IMHO) or with the trim removed (as will be the case with my car when it's finished - looks better for me). The stickers look quite modern as compared to the alloy badges, just a matter of taste, however.

And, anyway - is it important whether a car was originally a 2door pushrod or a genuine Sport? Mine came as a 1600 ohv Automatic in 1978 and is equipped since 1994 with all vital Sports parts (doors, axles, engine, gearbox, dashboard, interior, rear window - you name it). So, what is it - a pushrod, a bastard, a Sport?  For me it will always be the latter. Although she's named the "Ineptitude"  Wink

Robert,  I do remember looking at a few sports in the hounslow area probably fifteen years ago or more now and they had the side trims removed and filled level (well level ish) and your right they did look awful but this one looks clean probably because he hasn't tried to fill the groove in with filler as they all did. I removed the rear spoiler on the boot of mine as its W reg and could have had it or not on that year and I personally can't stand the things on 131's and think they look cleaner without them. I have a 1980 sport at the moment but still have soft spot for series 2 supermirafiori's as that was the first 131 I ever owned.
