This looks like a real find  :) :) :) Although the colour isn't to my taste  :-\ :-\

Simon - Just ask your builder to do a 4 car garage  ;D ;D

I do like the colour. Especially for the Super. Had 2 CL's in the past with this colour.

But i am a little confused here. This is an early series 3 Super. Right? Wonderful example, that's for sure. 8)

Great find! I am not a big fan of the Series 3 but I like this car and the colour  :o

I am quite sure she will find a good home  8)

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?
Post by: simon131 on June 05, 2012, 09:30:58 AM
Why the confusion Mike? ??? It's not an early Series 3 Super, more a mid- to late-production Series 3, with painted wheels and an mph calibrated speedo (although I don't know why that was needed as both my Abarth and Racing retained their kph speedos).

Rob, I would certainly bid for this car but for two things. Firstly I won't bid against a friend and I'm sure Kev is keen on this one  ;) (he's probably been to see it already :o ;D ;D) and secondly the bidder asks for a minimum of 10 positive bids and I only have 8 - despite being on ebay for years. :)

I shall watch with interest and see how the sale runs. 8)

Simon,

I'm confused because i 'don't see any switches from the power windows. I thought all 3rd series Supers had those... ???

Post by: c.a.c131 on June 05, 2012, 09:50:50 AM
I like this  :) the window switches are beside the handbrake.

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?
Post by: mirafioriman on June 05, 2012, 10:08:57 AM
Looks like a nice example. It's LHD again though so wouldn't be what I would spend my money on.

Also it's a series 3 which as you all know isn't my favourite 131.

However it looks like a really nice example and I'm sure it will make a good price. Personally I quite like the colour and it's metallic ;) Edit: Looking at it again it looks like it's actually a solid colour?

As always though if you are interested I'd advise going to look at it yourself to make sure it really is as rust free as claimed and it's in the condition you are looking for.

Post by: simon131 on June 05, 2012, 10:45:28 AM
looks Ok to me Mike.  ;D The two window switches and the central locking switch are located near the handbrake lever, on the centre console. None of the pics posted in the ad show this area, but the front doors don't appear to have winder handles so I'm sure it's the correct spec for a series 3 Super  8)

Well it's raced up to ?2000 reserve not met.

Guesses? Will it continue to rise or stick around here for a while?

I'm guessing an end value of around ?4000.

Dave

Your estimate of ?4k I think is about right.

Simon

You'll have to send your builder to Kev as he'll need a 3 car garage if he bids for this one  :D :D.

It is the type of car that could really tempt me (if it was in the same colour as Phil's). However I really want an Orange Sport  ;) :) A the right money  :-\ :-\

Alright Simon,

I'm not that familiar with the Super because they were not sold that many here in the Netherlands. Mostly CL.
I thought the switches were located left and richt from the gearlever. You see, i am learning still after all those years... ;)

I'll stick with Dave's 4k Estimate

C.A.C

I'll stick with Dave's 4k Estimate
I don't think that 4K will buy this 131  ;) the last few Super's sold on eBay for ?2500-?3000. So almost 3K for a that needs a repaint and body work a extra ?1000 would not cover the cost of that work. The 2000/TC is the one to have in the Super's "one day soon I will have a 2000/TC 131"  :) If a good Sport can make 10K would a mint Super not be worth half that ? ???

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?

I'm certainly interested in this car and will be popping along to see it soon. Nice to have one in Ireland to see for a change!

It was for sale by a Fiat collector in Belgium on Ebay France and Belgium along with Autoscout24 for several years without any takers. It had no plates or equivalent of MOT/NCT which I suppose made it hard to sell. The sills looked handpainted too which may have been an off putter. I also think from memory that the car has been painted. Surprising that once someone puts the car on the road that such interest is sparked!  :)

Could be a good one and preferable to my S2 Super... :)

Yes Dave the garage was built to take 4 131s!! ;D

Post by: c.a.c131 on June 05, 2012, 02:55:43 PM
The extra dealer rust proofing is what could be on the sills ! My 131 Panorama had a bit of extra rust proofing by the dealer too  :) the sills painted with a black rust treatment and around the engine bay done with a paint brush not the best job done but it did help stop the rust  ;D

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?
Post by: simon131 on June 05, 2012, 03:01:36 PM
Or 3 131s and a 132 Kev! ;)

The relative prices of 131s will always generate much debate, ;D but would-be buyers need to be under no illusion, the 131 market is currently extremely buoyant and structurally sound, original spec (and in the UK and Eire especially, RHD) 131s will always attract a premium. ;D I suppose what I'm saying is that the time to buy cheap good 131s has passed - unless you are extremely lucky to find someone willing to part with their's cheaply to ensure it goes to a good home. The good ones are too few and extremely far between these days so if you really want one, buy the best that's available at the time you are looking as the prices are only going one way..... ;)

As for Sports going for ?10k, this is the exception rather than the rule and I think in reality they are fetching between ?6,000 and ?8,000 - but they have to be seriously good for this money. Yes, I would concur that Sports fetch more than their 4 door 2000TC equivalent, but not always double. All 131s have a market, but it is still possible to buy a poor condition series 3 1600 Panorama CL for 350 Euros in France, so bargains still exist. ;D

For the record, to secure my latest 131 I have recently had to pay twice as much for it as a 9 year non-runner as I did 12 years ago for my MoT'd and taxed orange Special.  :o Times have indeed changed. ;D 8)

I love 131s! ;D :D ;) Sad isn't it? ::) ;D But I'd prob pay more than someone just 'dreaming' of owning one. Show me a good black RHD Sport and I'll show you my wallet, credit card, left arm and kidney ;D :D

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?

Simon

If someone could offer me a decent Sport (preferably in Orange) although I would consider other standard colours RHD or LHD for ?6k to ?8k; the cheque book would be dusted off  ;) ;)

Kev

If it was built for 4 131's then you better get bidding, because this looks like one worth buying  :D :D At the right price of course  ;) ;) How is the finishing off of the 131 Super going.

I'm certainly interested in this car and will be popping along to see it soon. Nice to have one in Ireland to see for a change!

You'll have to fill us in on it's true condition then Kev.

As for prices only going up people said that about house prices and now certain hoses are worth thousands less than they once were such as houses like my Great Aunts which were selling for 220,000 and more in 06 and now sell for around 170,000 or less.....

Same with cars like Jaguars in the 80's people were paying up to 30,000 for a nice one then suddenly you could pick them up for half that.

I guess it's OK if you can afford to pay big money for a car and take the risk that if prices drop you won't suffer for it.

I can't afford to do this. One of the reasons I bought 131s, 132s and an Argenta is they were cheap cars. Look what happened to Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts prices rocketed and now many ordinary enthusiasts can no longer afford them ::)

This is what will happen to 131s and then this site will be frequented by three types of people:

Those who have had a 131 for a long time

Those who are rich

And 'Dreamers'

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?
Post by: simon131 on June 05, 2012, 04:17:50 PM
Don't get me started on house prices Dave  ::)

I think your three categories of forum user are a little "limiting", if I may be so bold. I am neither rich nor a dreamer and yet I have just secured another 131 for what I consider to be 'reasonable' money. I consider myself to be 'an ordinary enthusiast" Dave, but these days nothing is cheap - from food to fuel, prices have increased. :-\

In any market its about supply and demand. These days, 131 supply is at best 'static' but is probably reducing and yet demand appears to be increasing, therefore market forces dictate that prices must surely rise.....and believe me, I'm not a markets or money whizz kid - it's simple economics.

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?
Post by: Rob 131 on June 05, 2012, 04:40:40 PM
As Simon mentioned any 131 price increase is surely as a consequence of limited supply.

However there is still a 131 I believe for every budget such as a CL for a few hundred pounds (as advertised e/where) to an Abarth.

I have been wanting a 131 Sport for 2 Years and nothing has come up / been offered at the right money. The right money being ?6-?9k.

As for house prices, I believe it is only certain parts of the country that are affected. I was watching a National Property Auction last week and prices seemed very healthy in comparison to 2010. Especially the one I was targeting  ::) ::) ::) ::)

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?
Post by: mirafioriman on June 05, 2012, 05:00:13 PM
House prices at auction can appear strong but many of the houses bought at auction are bought by investors with money who are getting little interest on it in the bank and therefore invest in property.

House buyers who need a mortgage etc I think are in a different position in the current climate.

As for cars apart from having little money I guess it's just about how you value things. If I had 10,000 I would rather have it in the bank than invested in an old Fiat.

A car won't pay the bills if you get made redundant or can't work through illness etc but savings could ;)

Then again you could do what some people do, spend all your money and then go on benefits. Seems to be the modern way for many.

Rant over ;D ;D ;D

I have been wanting a 131 Sport for 2 Years and nothing has come up / been offered at the right money. The right money being ?6-?9k.

Rob,

there were several interesting cars on offer in the last 2 years, on the forum and elsewhere, for example Jean's 131 - in the requested price range and presumably a very good car. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250968923453&category=9801&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 (still not sold I suppose).

Spending a little more money would have bought you Paul's NZ 131. In perfect state and with a powerful engine.

An orange Sport was available in Italy for 5000 Euros.

And so on, all during the last 2 years - just browse the "for sale and wanted" category.

However, if you choose to wait until someone approaches you with an individual, personal offer, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for ages. Why don't you take action if you are as keen as you say on buying a Sport?

I have contact with Rob as I have the right car for the right money ;)..........I think

Robert, the orange one was 6K, not 5K ;) and when the car was as good as it looked it was a real bargain but between looking and being..........................

Bobby, keep the spoiler in the shelf and leave it clean :D

C.A.C

You said ?5k and you may be correct  ;D ;D.

What would have been its list price new ?5,400 :-\ :-\ After discount ?????.

And who said Fiat 131's depreciated rapidly.

Albert I will get back to you shortly regarding the 131. Just very busy with work ...... On a Saturday >:( >:( :'(

And the Senior TT coverage is delayed. Day's plans turned upside down for me  :-\ :-\ :-\

Up to ?4,100 and the reserve is still not met  :o :o :o With 3 days to go

Shows Dave and mines estimate of ?4k was perhaps a bit on the low side.

Could make the ?5k  ;D ;D

As someone on another forum said it's getting to the point now where you could buy a car from Europe and import it cheaper. As we have seen there is a good choice of 131s for sale around Europe and not many four doors have asking prices of more than this.

If it was RHD it would be a real rarity but it's LHD just like the cars for sale in Europe.

If it continues to rise it will soon be in the realm of Sport money.

RHD or LHD; I am not overly concerned. Would obviously prefer RHD.

it makes you wonder just how much these two are worth although, i have always maintianed i do not want to know as i am not selling. it also makes you worry, as already stated with the escort.  if we are not careful, we (the enthusiasts) will be priced out of our own hobby.
as it happens i have pretty much most of the parts required to convert this car to RHD in stock including a mint brown dashboard, i'll need some convincing to part with them though.

Obviously more people are interested in the 4 door 131s over there than they are here. This will probably not sell at the price he wants.

Unless I am somewhat mistaken I don't think anyone is into 131's to make money.

I can't see there is much to be made.

For those that have a 131, any price increase is welcome. However, most on this forum would not want to part with their cars.

For those without 131's there appears to be cars available for under ?1,000 to over ?40,000. Effectively a 131 for all pockets. :) :) :)

At that sort of money I sincerely hope the car has been closely examined and taken on a long test drive as that is approaching almost double the money Phil paid for his blue one :o.

Title: Re: Nice Mk3 - just like mine ?
Post by: kev131 on June 14, 2012, 07:24:37 AM
More like treble Simon.  :o

Like most people I'm genuinely surprised the bids have gone this high...when LHD cars are quite commonly available on the continent. The only explanation I can think of is that this car has had the import leg work already done and it's ready to drive away.

Plus it's available for inspection relatively easily.  Going to Sicily earlier in the year was quite a logistical challenge as well as being quite a daunting return trip by road. A flight/drive to Belfast is simple enough.

Isn't it also remarkable that with 12 different bidders that noone on here has admitted to being in contention...or maybe that's part of their strategy. I'm sure some of the bidders have had to re-assess their level of committment to buy as time progresses....... I'm definitely not in the bidding but I hope the winner is a member here and that the car joins the community.  :)

Good job I am not a betting Man. I had you down as one of the bidders and was looking forward to providing similar comments to you that I sent when you bought the S2 Super  ;D ;D. Your silence on this car, I thought was a give away that you were one of the bidders.

The winning bidder is most likely someone on the forum.

Regarding the S2 Super, you are keeping details of this very quiet   ;D ;D.

I've always liked the look of Phil's S3 Super and if this was ?2k ish then it was a real bargain.

I knew that this would happen with this Super from the start  ;D 54 bid's  :o so far, this Super has just shattered all the eBay records for a 4 door Super 131's over here  :o and it not over yet !

I think it did start over a year ago with phil's S3 Super, before this 4 door Super 131's were sell for very little money on eBay.

I did think 2 years ago when I got my first Super, that it had to happen as these 4 door Super 131's are so rare in Ireland and the UK now  :)

What would a mint RHD Super make now ?

I don't think it's necessarily fair to compair this car with mine to closely, as I feel that the vehicles conditions when sold are quite different.

On the face of it this car looks in very good condition - as far as you can tell on photo's - Kev did you get up to look at this car? If so you may be able to confirm what the condition of the car is like and how that compares to my car before & after I had the body repairs completed.

When I brought my S3 it had damage to the NSF wing, OSF door, OSR door. OSR wing and the roof, all of which I have now had repaired, also I now have some more paintwork & corrosion to sort out on the NS of the car and a small amount of welding to the chassis.

Who ever buys this car, I hope for their sake it is as good as it looks in the photo's, we all know of the sort of problems that old 131's are capable of hiding  ???

But selling one car for a high price doesn't mean all cars go for that level of money. Beside that, aren't there fun bidders around? First see, then believe, but on the other side: Start restoring a car properly and you easyly can double or triple the amount it is on now, most people forget that.
