Anyone got the springs that hold open the bootlid? I noticed the rally car has them fitted , unlike the roadgoing Abarths , FAO Simon , its a nice touch as it will keep the GRP boot open evenly , without using the one sided prop .

I would think the standard springs will be too strong for the GRP boot lid of the Abarth.

Erm - my Abarth has boot springs already, factory fitted, same as the production 131S. It hasn't ever had a prop.  ???

There should be a couple of pics of the offending articles from my Abarth below.? 8) Strange that they are different colours ??? but there is definitely no evidence of there ever being a 'stay' or anywhere to put one for that matter ;D

You'll have to excuse the fact that there are a number of things 'stored' in the boot of my car. If you think this is a lot you should see inside the boot of the Racing ;D And the Specials.........and the CL ::)

Also strange that they are on the last 'notch' for maximum strength. I suspect these springs are different to the springs on the standard road cars.

Are you sure they're fitted from new Simon? 'Cos ours and Andy's both use a prop , like the old works rally cars... ???

Pretty certain (on my car at least), yes, but I'll take a closer look if I remember when I get back home tonight. ;D One thing I have noticed Tristan is how different all three of the Stradales are in the smallest of details - almost giving each car that 'hand built' feel. Perhaps they changed the props to springs on later cars? ??? What spares numbers are yours and Andy's cars? Mine is 211

Theo, I don't think that just because they are on the last notch one can assume that they are different to the standard spring. On many of my 131s in the past I've had to move them out to the last notch to stop the lid from closing on my head :o Like most springs they 'slacken' with age - and they are (I think ;D) 31 years old.

Good point Si , AFAIK Ours is one of the earliest ones. Haven't got the number to hand.

I checked last night and there has definitely never been a stay fitted to my Abarth. The bootlid has a small hole in the underside on the left hand side (drivers side) but I'm sure this is because all Abarth boot lids were built the same. There is no evidence of there ever being a 'hinged rod' arrangement fitted at any time.

Tristan, check out the spares numbers of yours and Andy's cars if you can. It'll be interesting to see whether it might have anything to do with it ???

The spares number (numero per ricambi) is stamped into the small silver plate which is usually rivetted onto the top of the front panel, under the bonnet, next to the hinge plate. It will also have the chassis number, homologation number (I think), body type (131AR) and paint colour (in my case 171) stamped or printed onto it.
