Title: silencer mounting stuff
Post by: 131DHOC on February 09, 2011, 05:01:20 PM
hello everybody, I'm looking for new rubber support stuff for my third series 131 super, I took a look underneath and saw two rubber hooks, one in the rear end and another underneath the rear sill, anybody knows weather are more or not? I'd change all the way the complete set to avoid future problems.
Thank you in advance.

Hello,

There's only two rubber mounts as you described and a bracket that fits the downpipe to the Gearbox.

131 DOHC

If you want to get it solved ponce and for all I suggest you get yourself one of the powerflex exhaust mounts i.e like this;

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Search.do?method=view&s=exh001

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Performance/Exhausts/Exhaust_Accessories/Powerflex_Performance_Exhaust_Mountings/801/3192

I installed a flexible joint in the front , used a strong spring in the middle and one of the powerflex in the back. Stopped all my exhaust hangers problems I had on every rally.

If it worked as a solution for a  car used in rallies it will work even better or "civilian" use.

You can get it at demon-tweeks but also any place that sells powerflex stuff.

The centre silencer mount on a 131 is different though.

Thank you guys, I think the problem is the link to the engine, as pointed out by Miro, it's too rigid and with this configuration the rubber mounts are the weak point. I have broken the final rubber support three times las year, I must say roads are quite bad here in Rome so if you hit a bump you will break this old rubber parts. Anyway, I have ordered these parts on ebay and hope to get them home next week. I'll drive little slower if I can.... :D ;D

not so bad as yours, I agree. Do you have grave stealers?  ;D ;D

grave robbers??? no, why?

this one is rather extreme and happens rarely but this is by no means unique example. ones that just eat wheels and tyres are usual. that's why i gave up un alloy wheels years ago. i use only steel wheels. stronger, cheaper, easier to fix.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_itSb_2x9w - bang at 0:29 is the sound of tyre blowout and alu wheel cracking.

It seems somebody has stolen the grave underneath the road, so that the thin asphalt has broken. Maybe giant moles  ;D ?

not moles, rats. and they don't care about graves, they must have gotten into road repair budget
