Title: Sway bar/ stabilizer thickness
Post by: wak131 on April 03, 2011, 07:47:52 PM
Today i found that a front stabilizer is 23mm on my MK2 Super 1600TC and 21mm on MK3 CL 1600.

I was looking for that meassurement for some time as i want to install the most robust stabilizer on my project car.

Does anyone have an info about diesel sway bar thickness or any other 131 for comparsion ?

Guys

The thickest was in 131 Abarth.

I need to measure it but I believe this was 24 mm. Will measure it this week and post it.

Miro,

The sway bar in the Abarth and Sport/Racing are same thickness. However, the one in the Abarth has a  totally different modell.

I had the chance to meassure on father?s MK3 2500 diesel sway bar today and to my surprise it is also "just" 21mm. I thaught the diesel versions should have the strongest ones as the engine is almost 80 kg hevier than a 2.0TC if my info is correct.
Weird, but if a MK1 1300 and a MK3 2500/D could have been leaving the factory with the same brakes, i?m not amazed.

But still i?m very curios about the numbers on an Abarth, thanx in advance Miro :)
and a Volumetrico Sport or a 4-door, hope that Albert can help please..

I made a bigger testdrive through the city today to test the cooling and new front arms on the MK2 Super and really the suspension seems noticeably stiffer in comparsion with quite high and soft standard setting of a MK3 CL. Both cars with standard shocks in good condition.

Hi!
Out of curiosity i had to measure my cars,

my Mk2 -81 1600 CL was 23mm and both my super 2000TC -82 and -83was 21,5mm and i have a Panorama 2000TC front suspension, it was only 21mm!

Very strange that my 1600CL had the thickest sway bar

Regards Alf

unfortunately it's not just the thickness. there's also a matter of stiffness of the material it's made of.
now, i know that some people are gonna be upset for bringing up the unloved marque again, but on ladas, all swaybars are the same thickness but diferent stiffness levels are available, ones on 2101, 2102, 2104, 2105 and 2107 are much softer than on 2103 and 2106, so called "sporty" models. they have almost no bodyroll at all.

Used to have a 1" (25mm) Addco front bar with poly bushings on my 124 Spider and it made the car ride really rough. I ended up taking it off and putting the original back on.
