Title: Urgent HELP: Magnetti Marelli electronic ignition
Post by: miro-1980 on November 09, 2009, 08:22:09 PM
RE :  Electronic Module : AEI 200A  ( Fiat part number : 4386220 with coil)

I have two such units current;ly installed on my cars ( 124 spider fi and 131) .

The cars are stashed for the winter in a remote garage so I have no direct access to them , but need to hook up a new engine for dyno testing and nee the following advice :

Does this module require a condenser ?

If yes how is it hooked up?

I have found some pictures in my library one from my 124 spider  with a condenser and from 131 without one?  The pictures do not how how it is hooked up.

Can anybody help, please ?

The que at dyno is running short , and if it passes my turn  I will have to wait another month ,so time is of the essence...

I think the condensor is only there to act as a supressor against noise I don't think it is actually needed to make the system work.

exactly, you don't need the condensor.
btw, it's the same unit for many fiat models, i have such on my lada, taken off ritmo 105tc

its a noise suppressor for the older stereos, a new stereo dont need these any more.

its a noise suppressor for the older stereos, a new stereo don't need these any more.

I've got a relatively new CD/radio in my car. I've also got wire plug leads on the engine, with a crane Hi-6 ignition driving a bosch HE coil, no noise suppression. FM radio or CD is fine, the interference on AM renders the radio stations inaudible. The children think it's amusing to hear the frequency and volume of radio interference increase with engine revs!

Last time i had that problem was on a old fiesta i bought for 45 punts, back then i had trouble getting noise suppressors, turned out i only need one on the altenator, funny that!
