I have just now read the member's coments on the sale of 131 for ?8500 and they seem to me to be very childish (or is it Jealous)
Kevin  What price would you accept for your 131 or your TC ?  Joe.

Hi Joe - I keep getting asked that question.  Smiley

The difficulty with valuing my car is that it is a conserved rather than a restored example in what appears to be the most popular colour (although not mine).

I've been tempted with a generous offer for one of cars already so it would be a rich man who could tempt me to part with my last remaining Mirafiori!!  Wink

Very recently there was a orange sport for sale in excellent order for around ?10,000. ?1500 will not buy you a restoration on a rusty one......

I wouldn't put the comments as childish or being jealous. I think what was written were only personal opinions.

The car was a good resto project but it did have a ceiling price IMHO was around the ?4500 mark.

A good paint job will cost approx ?2k plus any labour costs for the welding etc required. At ?8500 it will have the end result of a very expensive sport.

I think its good news they are grabbing higher prices if you own one not so if your looking for one but i think prices will level out verry soon as they are reaching their top dollar price now and i cant see people paying much more than they are going for now.

Like it was said in an earlier post a mint Orange 131 Sport sold for ?10,000 about 14/15 months ago and it needed next to no work, everyone was shocked then now were seeing close to that for a project Sport.
We have to remember people are paying ?5k plus for rust bucket Escort Mk2's and thats the base L model or GL models.

Our problem is going to be lack of 131 Sport parts in a few years time which will make owning or justifing buying one difficult.

I agree with you 106 that it's good if you own one as both of us do  Grin
I think this is a lot of money as well but on the other hand my 17 year old son has just got a quote for his first car a 1998 Fiat cinquecento 899cc and the cheapest quote is ?2799 !
I feel like I have been mugged by these insurance companies.

I agree with Devon Dave and 106  Smiley Wink. People need to be realistic on what their cars are worth  Roll Eyes Huh. I am in the process of buying a car (not a 131) and am faced with the same thing  Wink.

Economics was never my strong subject but I seem to remember something about the Law of Supply and Demand. If someone wants to charge a high price to supply something for which there's a demand, I'd say good luck to them. Why are we blaming (should say "you" or "some of you" as I'm not blaming anyone  Wink)  the guy who is asking ?8500 for his car when we should be congratulating him on a successful sale? If you don't like that price for that car, then perhaps you should blame the guy who is willing to pay that amount for that car. Or even better, don't blame anyone; simply congratulate the seller on a successful sale and also congratulate the buyer who is willing to pay the price to keep another of our favourite cars on the road.  Grin

I think we all will be shock and scared to drive our humble 131 's when they start going for ?15000 - ?18000 for a road going  131 , when we were  used to pay ?2000 when we first  started interest n ithem 20 years ago now and making a couple of hundred on top and felling happy  ,. i know some large feller  is used to it in his 131  Grin
just like the RS 2000 men they've got used to it .

By 'some large feller' do you mean me by any chance Ja? Wink

I don't think anyone ever gets used to high prices of anything, but as Theo says, it's a case of market forces and 'supply and demand'.

I'm sure classic car prices in general will rise and fall - just as they did on the late '80s when there was a 'recession'. People put their money into cars instead of the more usual 'investments', but in the case of 131s, especially RHD cars, the supply has all but dried up so prices are bound to rise.

I don't think that's the case with cars  Undecided I have the last surviving RHD Trevi Automatic in the UK and the only Trevi in regular use in the UK for the last few years but it's still worth nothing!  Embarrassed Who wants to give me ?8500 for my Trevi? Just 12 previous (careful?) owners .....  Grin Grin

I see the various comments about supply and demand that really can't be argued with. Moreover I endorse what  Theo says regarding another one of these cars that survives is only good fro 131's.

However I maintain what Dave and 106 say as regards this vehicle being overpriced. Auctions are always a great guide to see what a car is really worth. Here are some auction results from Anglia Car Auctions (as their web site) that would compare with a fully restored / original 131 Sport.

Jan 12 Auction - 1980 RS 2000 with the very rare and desirable 'X' Pack ?9,660

Sept 11 Auction - 1985 Lancia Beta Volumex - Looked in Great Condition with only 3 owners ?3,675

And the closest to a Fully Restored  / Original 131 Sport:

April 11 Auction -  Fully Restored RS2000 ?7,560

I don't think there are many people that could argue that 131 Sports are worth more then RS 2000's. Even though I and I suspect everyone on the forum prefers 131's. Furthermore the classic car magazines value 131 Sports at '000's less then RS 2000's.

I have no issue with the seller getting or asking this ammount he is quite right and i take my hat off to him for getting that ammount.
As for the buyer he is also quite right, as they say if you have got it flaunt it  Grin and i genuinly wish him a pain free and exiting restoration.

All i am saying is that it is amazing how last year a mint 131 Sport sold for not that much more money than a project has just sold for this year.

This particular Sport did look like a good project i have to admit.
I am guessing that the new buyer will have to spend ?5k-?8k to get it to a mint standard which could make this a ?13,000 to ?16,000 + 131 Sport bill.

Im glad i bought mine when i did.
