Title: 131 Racing silver for sale
Post by: bellamacchina on August 22, 2012, 07:31:08 PM
For sale: 131 Racing  1980, still all original! 64000kms!

The car wears it's original paint and is never restored. Beside the odd scratch and a very little bit surface rust it is completely, yes completely rot free. Never accident damaged. The car is parked since the nineties and we woke her up recently. Engine is running good. Interior is mint, the headlining is sagging of course(original you know). Enjoy the pictures and feel free to ask any question. This particular car is in at least as good condition as the car from Heini131 before that one was done,  Feel also free to ask Heini details about this car on offer.
Possibly for sale as is or completely done. I saw a lot of Racings during the last 20 years but this one is in exceptional original condition. With very little work this one is a concours winner. Why I sell it? Because I have already another quite nice silver Racing BUT

A very good offer on my other silver Racing      http://www.131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?topic=5554.0  is also possible, then I will keep this one for myself.

There is already interest shown in the car, it is otherwise not offered on internet

Price: 8900euro

Lovely Albert! 8)

Pitched at about the same money as Bobby's green RHD car - so any potential purchaser in the UK has a big decision to make............ ;) Original untouched but LHD or non-original and RHD....decisions, decisions......... ;D ;D

Opportunities to acquire such an original, conserved and unmolested Sport come around very seldomly - Buy now or regret it later is my view.  :)

Looks like the car is sold to a 131 enthusiast who had these cars years ago.

Congratulations ;)

Hello 131 Steve

I'm guessing you like 131s and are called Steve.

It would be a wrench, but I'd be willing to drive it back for you!

Wanna lift to Holland?

Cheers
Duncan

Congratulations on your new purchase Steve, I would have been interested but the steering wheel is on the wrong side ???

Albert, I don't suppose you could find a such car with the steering wheel on the right side so I could buy it ;D

Hello Everyone,

thank you all for the great welcome to the forum  :)  I've been following the forum for a while now as a guest, saving my pennies ready to buy a 131 Sport again.

I've got some old photos of some of my 131s in the past so I'll post them when I get a moment.

Albert gave me the registration date of my new one which makes it a "W reg" in the UK.  It's great that some people on the forum already know the car, I'd love any history that anyone has.

I'm sure I'll get used to LHD in the UK, eventually  ;D

Hi Duncan - yes please, a lift to Holland would be great.

Does anyone have a UK speedo and UK outer headlights for sale?  I think if memory serves the speedo in the sport reads higher than the 131 super making it unique to the sport but I could be mistaken  ???

Thank you all again and looking forward to meeting you and "getting into" 131s again,

Best regards, Steve

I've been driving LHD 131s for 6 years now (35000 kms in that time) and you definitely get used to it Steve. You just hang back a little more for overtakes which gives you more time to gun the throttle and listen to that TC.   ;)

Just be prepared for the chuckles as you repeatedly go to drive away using the passenger door!  ;D

The series 2 RHD Super speedo is marked to 120mph while the Sport is calibrated to 140mph. I think that's it as far as differences go. It's hard enough to find new outside RHD Sport lights - I've been looking for some time now.  :(

Looking forward to the historic 131 pics and don't forget to keep a pictorial blog of the inaugural journey home.  :)

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the forum and well done for buying such a lovely car! 8)

I purchased both my Abarth (in 2004) and a silver Racing (in 2005) and both still have kmh calibrated speedos despite being annually MoT'd. As long as the speedo is calibrated it doesn't have to be in MPH to pass the MoT.

As for the headlight aim - provided the car has 'sheilds' for the part of the beam pattern that would be thrown in to the path of oncoming cars, again it will pass an MoT. I still have LHD outers fitted to my Abarth but with the tape 'sheilds' and it passes everytime. Might be a quick fix until you can source some RHD outers - although, I seem to remember Theo once telling me that all 131 Sport outers are the same regardless of the market and that the bulb can be repositioned to get the correct beam pattern - perhaps, if he reads this he can confirm.

Welcome again, and I look forward to meeting you and your new ride soon. ;)

Simon131

Welcome to the forum Steve :)

I would leave the original KM speedo in the 131, I had a classic alfa that went ture all it's UK MOT's with a KM speedo :)

There is a possibility I have the MPH speedo for you, I will look soon :)

Phil, you have to get used to LHD, gives you more possibilities to buy great cars ;)

I also start to get used to RHD ;D

There's a Guilietta on ebay UK at the moment same or similar colour. Unfortunately it has rust and is not as nice as the one you have ::)

I like these too but already have far too many projects :D

Albert, as always you have managed to find yet another beautiful car, good to see that the steering wheel is on "the right side"  ;D

I am quite happy driving a LHD car, but I would rather drive a car with a steering wheel that agrees with the country that I live. Maybe you could persuade our Prime Minister that we need to drive on the other side of the road ???

Title: Re: 131 Racing silver for sale
Post by: 131Steve on August 25, 2012, 09:42:58 PM
thank you, I didn't realize that you can have a KM speedo and get a UK MOT.  Having said that if you have a MPH speedo Albert I'll be happy to find it a new home  :)

Good to know that you get used to LHD when driving on the left.  I've driven LHD before but always overseas on the right hand side of the road...

Nice to know you can get an MOT with headlight masks on

The outer headlight possible fix is interesting and a relief if works, now you menion it I remember having problems with my V reg sport years ago with one of the headlights that appeared to dip the wrong way  ???

Duncan (member 124AC) and I heated up the bulb and turned the bracked through 180 degrees I think as the bracket in the headlight apeared to be the wrong way round.  Perhaps it was a LHD headlight ???

I remember that we also had to fit square lights from a 1600 TC super to our friend Matthew's sport as we couldn't get any good outer headlights at the time, no internet back then ;)

Steve

Having the wheel on the "other side" (means drive LHD cars in the UK or RHD cars on the Continent) only has two downsides:

1) entering public garages might be awkward
2) going through McDonald's "McDrive" might also be awkward (but you could enter in reverse to make it more comfortable)  ;) 8)

Lucky me I don't like Mc Donalds and I avoid carparks because you always find your car back damaged, so for me RHD is no problem at all ;D

With my LHD Super I never go near towns or car parks ( I find cars get most of damage to the bodywork when parked in car parks ) I only drive it on main roads and motorways. The only thing I find that you need is electric windows, for the toll bridge's ! My old S2 1600/TC with no electric windows was a pain at toll's.

My 131 Racing now has an MOT  :)  It only needed two front brake hoses so that was a result to say the least.

The Racing has RHD outer headlights now ('cause I'm in the UK) and a full engine service with new cam belt and tensioner.  Albert kindly gave me a set of 14" wheels for the car (the originals were 13") which have been fitted on the Racing now with good tyres.

The car came complete with a floor at no extra cost  :D  I never knew if the outer end of the jacking point was supposed to be welded to the bottom of the sill or not as I was often the second (or third) person to weld the floor back together  ;)  But now I know   :D

I'm going to try to post some pictures now so wish me luck  ;)

As a matter of interest where did you source your RHD outer headlights? I've been searching for a pair for some time now.... :)

Hi Kev, thank you.  Got the MOT now, need to apply for plates......

I was so amazed to see a Sport / Racing floor complete, I was welding them in the early 90s  :'(

For the outer headlights I bothered everyone that I could think of from every RHD "oasis" on more than one continent, to be honest I ended with more lights than I needed - PM me and I'll be happy to pass on anything that you are interested in at the cost that I paid,

Best regards, Steve

Steve, I am happy that you are so glad you bought the car.

There was a Heini standard, now there is an Albert standard. Wow, that feels good but is really what I want to show. The story as it is, no more, no less and that is mostly the biggest problem when you wanna buy a car. Everything is glorious and far better as new, till you are there to have a look. And then people tell you, well it's not a new car, what did you expect.......... I hate that and prefer better one serious customer who knows the ins and outs as 10 customers from who you know they will be disappointed. Like many other fans I drove literally 1000s of kms for my dreamcars and also had quite a few negative surprises, but lucky me, it also works out more than once in the good direction ;D
So enjoy it as much as you can!

My 131 racing is now registered in the UK  :)

All the forms for the DVLA drove me mad so I asked Graham from  "classics and cabriolets" for help (member grahamS53)  Between Graham and Paul it was less than a week from posting the docs to having a tax disc in my hand - discount for forum members  ;)

Duncan and Al came up at the weekend from Wiltshire for a FIAT 131 day out (members 124AC and AW106)

Petrol station calling - no surprise there, the first person I saw said "I had one of those - it was so fast" and so it went on...a car transporter waved and flashed it's lights and a guy I haven't seen for years pulled up and said "you bought another one then Steve - that was always going to happen"

So time for some pics....have cars got bigger?  That's a VW Passat in front....

We decided...if you are going to.....

the Racing had picked up a bit of dirt somewhere in the fuel line - not driven since the 90s  - so that was always coming.... limited to about 3000 rpm after that  :(  we still drove it until dark though  ;)

I'd welcome your input here guys.......

Things I do and don't  remember - last drove a 131 Sport / Racing in about '93?

the petrol consumption.....

nothing in the interior rattled or squeeked

THAT engine, that exhaust

I really don't remember the headlights being that good, they are better that many new cars I've driven..

That gear change - sooo slick.....

Hi Bobby, thank you - All the 131 Sports I drove had 14s  ;)  so it only seemed right...and now that I'm over 25 I can afford new tyres, no more Yogi Ditch Finders  :D

I have to agree, all the 131s that I ever owned have got me home - not as quickly as I wanted a couple of times but always got me home.

Hi, thanks for the posts.  Looks so much better with reg plates on it  :)

It's got the UK tax disc on one side and the original Italian tax stickers on the other side...

Steering wheel seems to be on the "other" side but that's adjustable I'm sure  ;D  Tried to change gear with the window winder a couple of times....

I've got the FIAT centre caps for the wheels in my tool box for the moment - too easy to loose if ebay wants ?15? each...

Love the RHD headlights - thanks Bob

It's a great car Albert so thanks for holding on to it while I arranged the transport to Holland to collect it.

Hi Kev, as we know from Theo's post the 131 boot can hold a body with no problems...in mine it's a car cover - I promise  :D

I got to drive it!

That is my feet on view as I stripped the carb by the roadside.

It was fantastic to hear the noise of a Sport after all this time.  The feel and performance of the car remind me why we enjoyed them, and why we want to own them again.

My S3 BAR 336 X will be ready this month.  It is going to be the daily transport for Alistair.  Another generation gets the chance to enjoy a 131.
