Fiat power No mercy !!!

« on: November 25, 2013, 09:08:13 AM »

Hi!
I have a 131CL -81 with a 1600 OHV engine,my plan is to fit a 2l and since the radiator is full off radiator cement shit the solution is to buy a new one.

Does the 2l radiator fit or is it an major operation to make it fit?

Cheers

I did almost the same conversion and the original 1.3 Radiator is still in use

But I am afraid you have to change some other parts  Wink Cool

Hi!
Sorry Yagmur, what i found they seems to be different in size..

The measurements i found is for the -81  CL 1600  292x470x38 and the 2l -82 to -84 supermirafiori has 551x396x40, I can't confirm that they are correct!

What i was looking for if someone did the conversion and if it needed any modifications?

Heini: do you know which parts?

Cheers Alf

You can fit a 2 litre rad I did it to my 1600cl. It's a while ago but I think the bracket on the crossmember below it needed swapped too. They are indeed different. They look similar but are different sizes on the Fiats at least. The 2 litr one is bigger presumably to increase the cooling capacity for the bigger engine.

As I already said I use the "small" 1.3 Radiator together with the 2.0 engine and without any problems!  Cool

You will need the gearbox of a Racing or something similar. But that means you need another propshaft.
And you need another starter-motor, the one from OHV is on the other site which means modifying the car wire harness  Wink
And you need the complete 2.0 exhaust sytem...

... and don`t forget about the ignition-system  Roll Eyes

Thanks Dave and Heini, Yagmur!

Heini: it was just the radiator conversion from a 1600 to a 2l radiato,if it was a directly fit or with some modyfying, the engine conversion is the next problem, but i have alot of spares from 131 2000Tc .

I know that the smaller radiator is enough for a standard 2l but I am after that extra cooling since i am building a performance  Hc 2l engine and i need a new radiator anyway.

I think i will buy the 2l and try and fit it!

Thanks for all your answers...

The radiators for the Sport/Racing (possibly all 2 litre 131s) are taller than the ones for the 1300 and 1600 cars. So fitting a '1600' radiator to a Sport is very easy; either let it hang off the bracket at the bottom or, as I did, fit an extra bracket (I made it out of aluminium) to the bottom of the radiator. Yagmur can supply triple-core radiators so they have a lot more cooling capacity (30% extra theoretically) than the original radiators. Fitting one of the larger radiators to a 1300 or 1600 car is more complicated as it'll involve cutting and welding the bracket on the front crossmember. I would stick with the smaller size radiator but make sure it's a high quality triple core one.

Another OT  Cheesy But, was the Abarth Stradale radiator the same as normal 2.0 TC radiator? How about the g.4 radiator? The same, or a special multicore radiator or how was it? It looks the same as normal 2.0TC?

Were any of the Euro cars fitted with the wide twinfan radiator? We had them on the later 2 litres with air con.
