Yesterday i was at a classic car event and i came across a UK reg Ford Escort M2/ 1600Mexico.As i was looking at the car ,a old school  classmate came along and i said to him ,thats a nice Escort,he said that belongs to me.
As we were talking,i asked him how much he paid for it and he said 15,000euro.I didn't believe him,so he showed me the receipt and yes he was not lying.
The car is in showroom condition,but are prices like this going to continue on the up scale or are they going to level off!!.Would love to hear other forum members views.

Prices for classic fords such as the Mk 1 and 2 Escort have been high and climbing for a couple of years. Any two door car is worth serious money, particularly if it is one of the RS variety. It's great if you have one to sell, but hard as a buyer unless you have a large amount to spend! I suppose it's getting the same for the Mirafiori sport. You could buy a project for a couple of hundred, now people are asking over a thousand for one and getting it.

We've all seen the upturns on prices for classics over the years.

It seems crazy at times exactly what cars suddenly become 'desirable'.

The Nuova Fiat 500 is probably the easiest to quote, practically un-saleable in the late 70's through to mid 80's due to the rust and unreliability reputation, it suddenly became the must have for the darlings in Kensington around 89-90-91 and has increased in value ever since. Most are advertised in the magic ?4500 to?6500 range but whether they actually sell for the latter I'm not sure.

The sad truth is that because most of  the 131 Sports had succumbed to the UK climate by the early 90's they were forgotten by the mainstream car enthusiasts.

When the Sports started to be restored and displayed at shows, peoples memories were jogged by them and thats when the re-interest in them began to flare up.

We will all be watching the market for some time to come and any upward trend... as the lads have already stated has its 2 edged sword  :) :(.

Heres to garage/shed/barn finds without the hyped up prices  :) 

         

I was building a fiat 131 abarth replica having a tight budget for it. I have not made anything to the engine but whole rest was done.
Here is the list of things i had to make:
-stripping the car
-sandblasting the chasis
-repair work madeto the chasis
-fitting bodykit
-painting
-fitting rollcage(i have not done that personally)
-fabricating all suspension parts(uniball links, bilstein, new custom mc person struts etc.
-check of all wiring loom
-assembling of all car
-and many more things that has to be done
-new brakes, brake pump, etc,

well, i spent on the car and new parts used to build it more than 12000pounds(including painting that was done in a bodyshop)
To this you need to add the cost of engine, LSD diff,clutch and few other bits

Now think of many work hour spent to build it and you have the answer....It just is not cheap as it takes a lot of time, money and ... tools- often forgot in calculations, but really neccesary if you want to do the job right.

i 2 was at a car show on sunday lads asking 5500 euro for 1982 ford cortinas
then again 1 of them was a 2 door witch is very rare austin maxi moris marina 5750 euro
so eugine better get cracking and find a 131 sport before they top 15 grand like the escorts ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
