I will be at Gaydon, unfortunately I won't have my 131  :-[as it's in lots of bits in the garage at the moment in great need of someone who is a good welder.

It will be good to get along any way (despite the french thing  >:(I will be driving) to meet some of you and have a general chat about all things 131.

Phil

Why is it off the road? Nothing major I hope and wishing your car a speedy recovery.  :D

Hi Mick,

The welding list as it stands is both rear wheel arches, some of the floor, bulk head (where the heater motor is located), battery tray and the driver's seat mounting.

I am hoping to take engine and gear box to come out in the next few weeks so the list will most probably grow...I am on the North Essex coast in St Osyth.

Phil

Hi guys,

Well I've been out of the loop for a while due to other factors so I thought it was time to step back in.

I'm planning to be at Gaydon with my Volumetrico, so I'll see you there.

Lets hope it stays dry this year  ;)

Yes Jason, I wonder why one of us chose to bring a Gumma instead of their 131?

Oh well at least the 131's present looked damn fine!  8)

Yes a great day, good weather (for a change!? ::)) and a great event; well attended and four 131s!

I wonder why one of us chose to bring a Gumma instead of their 131?

Well, because I could!? ;D Also by doing so I kept the numbers equal with four 131s and four Gammas present so the natural order of the universe was preserved!? ;D ;D Mind you, a lot of people told me off for not being there in the 131 and in fact Anita said "what's that 'orrible brown car you came in!" . But she did change her opinion of my Gamma  once I demonstrated the special passenger seat feature!? :o ;D

Here's some of my photos of the day:

Yes, a great day out in the sunshine (eventually ::)) after driving through fog on the M40.

Good to see four 131s make the effort - shame about the fifth (eh T)! ;) ;D A good showing of forum members from across the country - mick131, andy c and 'Nita, phil, jasonh131, Gremlino, me and Thotos.

Lovely colour brown that Gumma Theo, Anita particularly liked it :-*

The journey home took a turn for the worse though as the M40 ground to a halt at High wycombe (no real surprise there) ::). So a quick squirt down the A404 to the M4, A33 and cross country back home - it actually made for a nice change.

Fuel economy was down on the Arbie though had to stop and get fuel at Oxford services - robbing gits they are too! :o Perhaps the points have closed up - and before any one says 'its electronic ignition cos its a 2 litre', well, it isn't - good ole points and condenser on this Abarth! ;D

I know I keep talking about it, but I shall run a small meet sometime in early November now probably, for all 131 forum members who want to attend. A short 'follow the leader' drive through rural Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire followed by lunch 'chez moi' - assuming the missus can run to it! ;D :D ;)

I've always had a soft-spot for the Alfasud (must be the flat-four engine, just like the Gamma  ;D) and this was an exceptionally good example:

Theo, I too share your love of the Fiat Dino and these two cars were exceptionally fine ;D I've wanted a Dino Spider since I did the Norwich Union Classic Run in 1989 in the 124 AS Spider I owned at the time. The car behind me all the way was a beautiful blue 2400 Spider - and the sound of the quad cams and triple twin choke carbs stirred something deep inside me - totally wonderful. :P

I think at the time the car was owned by a guy called Mark Cooper, an advertising exec with a stunning young lady as co-pilot (I was looking at the car honest Wendy!).? ;)

There is something truely unique about the 2.0 and 2.4 6 cylinder Dino engine - whether it be in a FIAT or a Ferrari, but I've heard some terrible stories about the chains snapping causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to the engine. This is what has always put me off owning one.

I also noticed the Sud at Gaydon. Not many about these days as they suffered terribly from poor electrics and the British weather. I think the in-board brakes weren't exactly the best either :-\ Great fun to drive though. My very first Boss back in 1985 had a 1982 Sud Tii in virtually the same colour brown as Theo's Gumma, and the car flew 8) It was truly cool, but I only had eyes for my 131 Sport at the time!

You UK based guys seem to have a wealth of Italian outings to choose from....

I wonder should we try to organise an Irish expedition of Fiat/Italian fans for one of the events for next year...? Any interest from the Emeral Isle based members? Something to look forward to after 3MA09?  ;)

Welcome back Kev!? :D ;)

Some of our forum's Irish members made it to the Brooklands Auto Italia day earlier this year. It's very easy to attend such events if you fly in and out of the UK (although budget airlines are bound to be increasing their prices in an attempt to keep flying rather than going bust as some already have). But it would be much better to get a convoy of Irish Italian cars arriving to one of these events.

Thanks Theo - Actually I should have been clearer - A convoy (of Italian classics) is what I implied!  ;D If we get the weather.... ???

There was always a dutch convoy to bromley pagent nearly every year as it was
the biggest 1 day classic car show in europe with nearly 3000  cars

No way.......they couldn't have made 2 cars that shade of Braaaaaan  :D ;D :D

The Sud and the Dino were and still are very underrated cars.

?

I don't know about two cars in that brown but I can confirm there are several shades of  "that Braaaaaan" because my car has at least four shades of it even though all that brown came out of the same tin!  ::) :-\

Does that mean the paint reacted to itself when it was sprayed on..... :o :o :o

Joking aside.....I have seen colour set differently on the same car... sprayed with the same gun, using the same activator and applied by the same guy  ???

Sometimes paint makes no sense  :'( >:( :( ???

I haven't seen this pic before now. ::) Sorry.

Looks good doesn't it? I must admit that when the guy stepped out in front of me I wondered what the heck he was doing, as I was sure I'd driven past him before he was able to take the pic.

I could do with a copy of this. Where can I get one Gremino? Is Octane on line?

Si, yes your car looks good.

Octane is available at most reliable newsagents. Have a look at their website and maybe check out  next months edition.
