Title: RHD Sport for sale in UK
Post by: kev131 on March 01, 2009, 06:39:32 PM
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fiat-131-SPORT-1982_W0QQitemZ270351838823QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item270351838823&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I must admit that I got a little bit excited when I came across this...

A Black RHD Sport! Regretfully it has been modified beyond my own particular taste and looks as if it might be a significant rust victim.

Interesting rear spoiler though - yet another variation and not all that bad looking compared with some out there..!  ;D

It is amazing how these rare cars keep appearing! Looks like a good project and I actually like the cars appearance (except the rear spoiler). I think when looked at closely though it will need quite a bit of work.

I wonder if someone on here will buy it and we will see it's progress?

My heart skipped a beat too when I saw it, especially as it is black, but unfortunately I too believe that it has some serious rot. Never seen rust quite like that in the top of the inner wing before without substantial rot in most of the other usual places too :-\

Shame - but I'm sure it will still make good money. I hope that the new buyer is a member of our "131 community" and gets it roadworthy again.

Good luck to the seller ;)

At the moment the current bid is 1200.00UK Sterling and in my opinion that is enough for it.It will cost in my opinion 10,000euro to do a complete and proper restoration on that car.The rusty areas that are shown is what can be seen,so what about the areas that can't be seen ::).I think Sid's or Seamus's route is the way to go ::)Eugene

It has only had the one bid so far, so no competition as yet. I am pretty sure it will make much more. Should be interesting to see exactly how much.... Shall we all start guessing? I reckon about ?3500.

Yeah that would be about right? is that all that is done in the Uk to fix a car, weld over rust & isopon over the welds & then shutz?
i have seen lots of "mint"  Uk motors "restored" that way????

If anyone on this forum buys the car and wants to sell the rear spoiler ill buy it (100 Quid waiting).
Or does anyone know where to get another one like that?
It looks like it was made for the car.
Steve

Well someone got a bargain. Just finished at ?2150. It had been stuck at that price for a few days and I really expected others to bid at the end of the auction. Perhaps the UK credit crunch has started affecting sport prices......

I hope the buyer restores it and that we get to see the progress here.

Someone had offered a buy it now price of ?3250 but it never materialised as an offer.

Yes hope we will see it's progress.? :)

If someone offered me ?3250 for my Racing they could have it ;)

I think that ?2150 for the black car is still pretty good though, and shows that some people will buy cars now that would have been scrapped ten years ago. I wish the purchaser very good luck in finding everything that they'll need to get the beast back on the road and hope that we will get to see it all through this forum ;D

To be honest I am surprised that a car for restoration with serious rot in the shell and otherwise not complete brings that money. Dave, I cannot name it a bargain but maybe I am totally wrong. When you wanna restore the car you pay much more then you have to pay for a reasonable car from europe, although I understand you give the RHD a big premium.

Title: Re: RHD Sport for sale in UK
Post by: mirafioriman on March 08, 2009, 08:08:41 PM
Depends how you restore a car. Personally I would not be able to spend the thousands of Euros that some people here talk about spending to restore their Fiat. I believe if you are able to do much of the work yourself it can be done much cheaper. The car on ebay may be very rusty or may well be quite a solid shell without seeing it it is difficult to tell. If as the seller said it did indeed have a Guy Croft engine and many other modified parts then I do still think it was a bargain. I have seen much rustier ones sell on ebay here in the UK.

As you say quite rightly original RHD is a big bonus here despite what anybody says. No matter how good a LHD European import is it will never be a genuine RHD UK sport!

Yes you can drive a LHD car comfortably here in the UK just as I have driven comfortably in Europe with a RHD car, but as soon as anyone sees it they know straight away that it is an import!

The other thing to consider is the cost of importing the car. You will have to pay the fuel cost and cost of a ferry plus the travel expenses to get to the car. This alone would cost as much as I have ever paid for a 131! I guess different people just have to work on different budgets.

Personally I enjoy buying cheap cars and turning them into a much nicer example, this is what gives me pleasure even more so than driving around in it afterwards!

You shouldn't care if other people say a car is an import as I have caught many of these people who know everything about cars with some of my left hand drive cars who say they have to be imports even though they were never available in right hand even though they insist they were...

In my opinion, that car was not cheap.Maybe when the buyer sees it,he may well leave it should it have to much rust.My gut feeling is that it's stone rotten having seen the rust holes in the photos.
Also the car may get a quick touch up and be sold on which is worse again.Eugene

You beat me to it >:(! Was just about to post the new link! The buyer had good feedback if I remember so I wonder what happened? The buyer had a score of 358 with a 100% rating :-\

Dave,i believe what happened was, when the guy came to collect it and saw how rusty it was,he said to himself that's not for me ::).Take a close look at the photos again. One will see that the rust is bubbling out almost everywhere :o.Eugene

If that is what happened then it shows the importance of viewing a car on ebay in person before you buy or you have to accept you have bought it unless the seller has mis-described it. The buyer must have got to see it pretty quick as it only ended Sunday night and it was relisted by monday. It now has been re-listed with a starting price of ?1000 and a reserve. Can anybody remember how it started last time?

The lad that won couldn't pay up for a month ,so seller needed money quick so relisted it , i thought ebay winners entered a binding contract....

The buyer had a good 100% feedback rating. I would have thought it unlikely they would buy a car for ?2150 and not have the funds available. Where did the info come from Jason?

Title: Re: RHD Sport for sale in UK
Post by: mirafioriman on March 14, 2009, 09:53:04 PM
Well, it sold again tonight. Only made ?1900 this time to a buyer in Ireland. I think the crunch is definitely starting to affect sport prices now. Despite what people have said about the cars possible condition, I am sure if it had come up for sale a year or so earlier, it would have made much more. As before, I hope we get to see it brought back to it's former glory!

One thing i will say is,as people loose there jobs, they will have a lot of free time to restore cars which they wouldn't have had before.I think Dave is right, prices will come down.Eugene
