look on the signboard! Fiat 131 Abarth 1975. it's a joke? ;D But what is it ? 131 S / Racing / Sport / GR 1/2/4 ? anybody knows the Owner? Enzo ;) Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: simon131 on July 09, 2009, 10:41:37 AM I'm sorry to say that it's not a joke!
I saw the car at Goodwood Festival of Speed last Friday (3rd July) where it was still being displayed as a 'Fiat 131 Abarth' >:( The owner wasn't at the show on Friday (I asked) but the car is clearly no Abarth! My guess is it's a genuine 1975 period 2 door shell, (probably a 1300 'Basic') hence the 'N' registration. It has rear drums on an 'Atlas' axle, no extended arches, a 1300 basic semi-circle instrument cluster with an after market rev counter mounted on top of the dash ::). The rear panel is a home made flat piece of metal with series 1 lights yet it has 131 Sport/Racing lights up front. All in all a very poor 'copy'. I heard the car start and it sounded like a standard 8 valve twin cam to me, certainly nothing special. In my opinion an insult to the motoring enthusiast to be calling it a '131 Abarth'. I don't know the owner but believe that the car comes from the Southampton area of southern England. Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: simon131 on July 09, 2009, 10:51:29 AM The pic of the car in my posting (when it was yellow) was taken at Goodwood 2007 and I found it on the net - but I think it's still yellow today.
I notice that the pic of the rear of the car when it was white has 'originally prepared by J Bloxham' on the boot lid and that name which rings a small bell with me. I don't know the guy personnally but a guy called John Bloxham was in to 131s years ago, and I think raced a (black?) 131 Sport in the Italian Intermarque Challenge in the UK in the 1980's, which had the number "131" on it's bonnet and doors - perhaps this 'Abarth' is owned by the same guy(?) Yellow, the car was white at Goodwood 2009 look Pic. Enzo ;) Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: Thotos on July 09, 2009, 04:56:39 PM Theo, are you sure? Yellow,? the car was white at Goodwood 2009 look Pic. No, I am not sure and have no idea as I haven't seen the car? :-\. Simon claimed to have seen the car just last week and he posted a yellow picture so I assumed it's now yellow. I think it's still yellow today. Simon, you must know what colour it is if you saw it last Friday!? ;) Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: simon131 on July 09, 2009, 07:35:03 PM Sorry Theo - I can't remember! ::) Possibly white :D I've had seven sleeps since then ;)
As I said, 'my' pic I found on Google Images and is from 2007 - so the 2009 pics are obviously a better record - not that Goodwood always get things right ::) Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: simon131 on July 11, 2009, 08:43:39 AM Most of the good ones now wear a 'Sport' or 'Abarth' badge - or both ::)
Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: sid131 on July 11, 2009, 10:58:02 AM I know where there is a good one in white, 2 door 1.3 or 1.6 not sure what series it is though, but i am sure the owner will tell us when he reads this, its got red sport seats in it that dont suit it!!!! ha ha ha ( thats what i keep saying when trying to buy them every now & then lol)
Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: TreviDash on July 11, 2009, 11:03:58 AM Does anyone have their programme? It should list the owner and driver and area/country it lives.
I missed FoS this year, but had been every year since 2000. I have all progammes in the loft somewhere. Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: Gremlino on July 11, 2009, 12:04:18 PM Do they run a rally experience event at the Fos?
If so then this could be a 'Abarthesque' joyrider for the public to have a go in......ok its not original but should give a good experience to its passengers. Could do with a set of arches though ;) Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: bellamacchina on July 11, 2009, 09:49:32 PM Maybe it's green next week ;D
Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: maxi.man on July 12, 2009, 01:48:21 PM yep the yellow car has been repainted it was at chatsworth with fresh paint. comewhere i have an article in autosport early 80"s with the yellow paint scheme why would you want to change it as it was rallied in that livery for many years
Title: Re: HRV 735 N Sport/Racing/Abarth ??? Post by: sid131 on July 12, 2009, 04:01:24 PM I think its great to see a steel bodied car still going strong instead of the ill fitting abarth replica fibreglass panels fitted.
