Normal thread but it's on VERY tight (and so it should be). I use starter motor power to get it off!  :o

If it did not let go on starter motor then you can heat it with some gas torch and then cool it with water  - make few cycles and then try to undo the bolt

Forgot to mention the engine is from a Strada Abarth.
So is the advice the same?

On examination the bolt head has a large capital 'L' on it, must surely indicate L/H thread?

Sorry Steve, don't know anything about Stradas (although I did have a 65CL Bianca many years ago!  :-[  ;) ) and I am not sure what you mean with left hand and right hand threads (I always use my right hand to undo bolts  ;D). But I can say with 100% certainty that on a 131 engine you would undo the crankshaft front pulley nut by turning it anti-clockwise.

Hi Eugene,
I would be lying if i said i didnt scrape a knuckle or two! >:(
Pulley is away having a distance piece machined so as to fit a trigger wheel.
The Omex electronic ignition system is wired in, just the throttle bodies/injectors and fuel rail to come.  i should get her running when im home (Spain) in September.

38mm socket, normal style of thread ie clockwise to tighten.

remove sump, engine upside down - jam crank with 2 small pieces of wood.

Remove nut with compressor driven windy gun or electric nut gun. :o

You will never get enough purchase on it with bars etc, it all just moves.
