This car has been for sale for a while. I'm not looking for a sport myself, but if I was I would definitely go and see this car. It has a full length fabric sunroof which some people have taken a dislike to and as it is not an original sport colour I think this seems to have put some people off.

In terms of what to look for I would say the three most important things to consider are:

1) Condition of the bodywork and chassis. All 131s are old cars and have a reputation for corrosion which is justified, they did and do rust. In my experience corrosion is often worse than it first appears. They also can rust virtually anywhere so look everywhere you can!

2) Condition of the interior. Seats, carpets etc can be hard to find in good condition so a good interior is going to save money and time.

3) Is the car complete? Some little bits of trim which are unique to the sport can be hard to find in good condition.

I would not worry too much about the mechanicals. A good mechanical condition is a bonus but engines and gearboxes often appear on ebay and items like brake discs and pads, water pumps etc are pretty easy to find.

I always recommend viewing cars in person as the camera can and often does lie! I would definitely recommend going to see it in person if you are interested.

it is always a good idea to take a mechanic with you who
knows these cars , and dont be afraid to take your time
examining it . ps where in Ireland are you located and
dont forget Killarney in Sept  ;D

Bring a good mechanic and a strong magnet and if you see plates welded over metal it is more then likely covering a rust patch but if it is butt welded you can be fairly confident the cancer was removed correctly....

any sport that you are thinking of buying, check it out thoroughly, make sure all the bits and pieces are there, also that the car is running  well, basically  buyer beware as some sellers can be economical with the truth.

Hi Jack1 its not my car but if you pmed me a email or phone number i can put you in contact with the owner i havnt seen the car just some pics its genuine Irish regd (rare) & thats all i know, may be the one for you? no transport costs from abroad & no vrt to pay & its rhd, they all need lots of tlc for the auld rust so they can be rotten basically anywhere, but to have one thats worth doing is well lucky. where in the country are you? & are you going to the gathering in september in Kerry?  i love my old toyota big time but i have the 131 sport disease pretty good, so not a bad complaint lol!
