Katie was sold on Ebay about 3 months ago for a buy it now price of ?1000. I wonder why it's back on the market so quickly..? ??? Title: Re: Up for sale again Post by: Gremlino on July 31, 2009, 05:39:05 PM Yes Kev,
I sold her in November 2007. She needed outer sills and both front wings at that time. I did not have the time or resources to restore her myself in 2007 (had lots going on at the time) so I put her up for sale and I had a caller in a few days. The fella who bought her from me had Malcolm Fancy at Fancy Engineering put wings and sills on and someone else paint them. The finished result looks ok in the pics now on Ebay but I didn't realise she had been sold on recently. The problem with keeping a car like this is pretty much the same as any older car....you need a garage to keep them in and you need to use them regular. The guy who who I sold her to had a garage but also had 5 other Fiats (no 131s) and did not use the car regularly enough so had issues with the battery, stale fuel and moisture in the points...he never dealt with these issues all the time he stayed in touch so I can only hazard a guess that this may be why its on the market again so soon ??? Heres a few pics from when I was assessing the rust, she had been Ziebarted from new but unfortunately left outdoors unmoving for a couple of years before my old mate Mike Zollo rescued her prior to me buying her from him. She was in good reasonable condition and ran ok the few times I took her out so I'd be surprised if anything serious is causing the re-sale. Title: Re: Up for sale again Post by: sid131 on July 31, 2009, 05:59:27 PM it looks like it may be a good enough car this one & a pretty rare one also, yes to own this it would have to be garaged only see none or slight rain (Ireland Uk) & be soaked in dinitrol, i remember dad getting a new 128 in 1980 & a grey 131 sport was in the showroom with pippin red interior (drool) that day waiting for pick up by its new owner.
well as for the 128?? what a pile of rubbish it started to rust the day after he bought it & was nothing but trouble, well he traded it in against a new fiesta after a year & there ended his affair with Fiat, it was then sold local to where i used to work & it dissolved rapidly into a pile of rust & was scrapped before it was 3! even had a guaranteed Irish sticker on the back panel & it stayed intact & the metal disappeared around it. Title: Re: Up for sale again Post by: sport fan on July 31, 2009, 06:17:45 PM what a lovely car these were , my first two cars were 128 s and
learned to drive in my Dads one , far superior to what else was available at the time K20 K 30 and Escorts. Title: Re: Up for sale again Post by: Gremlino on July 31, 2009, 06:48:48 PM Quote guaranteed Irish sticker on the back panel & it stayed intact & the metal disappeared around it Yep I had a few that were like that....you could put your hand through most panels. There were quite a few running faults on the Mk2 128, a friend once told me it was a dodgy batch of distributors but Fiat didn't help when they kept putting the blame on other components. My last Mk2 'Tebby' had a 127 Ducellier dizzy fitted and she never missed a beat. Pic of side.... Title: Re: Up for sale again Post by: Gremlino on July 31, 2009, 06:55:33 PM Front...
