131mirafiori forum

It might seem like a long way away but planning for 3ma10 has been progressing steadily. Ren? (131akafa), one of our men in Germany, has negotiated a superb deal with a very nice hotel in the heart of the Black Forest. He is still busy finalising the deal with the hotel and we should be able to announce details before the end of November.

Negotiating these hotel deals is not an easy task and it's made even more difficult because we have no idea how many people will turn up. We can take a good guess but having a better understanding of the number of people planning to join us makes life a lot easier. So a pre-registration form has been set up where you can tell us if you intend to join us or just if you are thinking of joining us. You will not be committing to anything by filling in the form; it's just so that we can have a better idea of numbers. I can vouch for this - A huge amount of research has been done by the organising team who has reviewed a wide range of hotels.

I have registered Theo - Wild horses...etc etc etc. ;)

Hello together,

i would like to take two friends with me. One is driving a new Fiat 500 Abarth and one is driving an old Fiat 500. If nothing terrible happens we will come to 3ma10. I hope it is ok also they do not drive 131 !

Eugene, of corse not! We will come with three persons and three cars. Now my car is doing his winter-sleep, but in may next year i am on the road again...
This trip will be a nice test for my 1600...

im booked in with  the hotel  even gave the 131 a tune up this morning  8) timing was out and fited a new airfilter ,, thats keen :D
 p.s. just 131's  no infiltraitors remember ;D just hitch a ride in a 131

The primary purpose of the 3MA has always been, and will always be to get as many 131's and their owners together in the same place as possible - as the name implies - (3MA) Maximum Mirafiori Mobilisation Attempt - so whilst we don't (and won't) actively exclude anyone without a 131 (Steve and Dawn came to Turin in a BMW Z3 and there was a 124 Special T, 127 Sport, 130 Saloon...among others) it is obviously preferred if you turn up in your 131 ;D ;D

The GKMR is an 'all Fiat's event' organised by Kev and as such is different to the 3MA. 8)

Oh OK then, I won't bring the Trevi and I'll get the 131 washed and ready  ;D ;D ;D

Jason, you're being a bit too keen if that's at all possible  ;D  I'm sure your 131 will need another minor tune-up before next May   ;) ;D ;D

I am very tempted to book the Norfolk line Dover to Dunkerque ferry though; at ?28 return it is very cheap and prices are only going to go up later. Maybe the other UK attendees can offer their input on this.

?28 return does sound really good and will help keep the overall costs down for my wife and I  :)

It's already gone up by ?2 to ?30 today!  :-[ I am sure it's going to keep going up so if we think this is the best deal and route we should book it sooner than later.

I'm with you on that one Theo. Are you able to set up a voting poll on the forum for members to choose their desired route and then let the poll decide? Agree with you that we need to do this sooner rather than later.

Me too - Just booked it now by phone and confirmed it by e-mail.  :) Just 5 and half months to go and I still can't decide which car to bring...Super for comfort or Sport for fun...what a choice!  :)

As you took the Super to Turin this year Kev, I think it has to be the Sport next year.  ;)  Plus I remember hearing you a few times in Turin saying "I wish I brought the Sport".  ;D  It will be nice not to have to wait for you to catch up  ;D ;D

I think we should certainly take the 6:00 am ferry out on the 13th. That will get us to Dunkerque at 9:00-ish am local time so we should be in Lossburg by 6:00pm allowing a couple of hours for fuel, comfort, coffee, lunch stops.

For the return trip, assuming we set off from Lossburg about 9:00 am, we should be back in Dunkerque by 6:00pm so to be on the safe side I'd suggest getting the 8:00 pm ferry. We gain an hour on the return so we'll be back in Dover at 9:00pm.

Yes it is possible to have a poll but it's early days yet and we still don't know who will be joining us.  If the few of us who have already decided we are certainly going book the ferry now, then others joining in have the choice of going our way or not.

Ha ha - But I wasn't the slowest in absolute terms and in fairness one could argue that the little twin cam was faster overall ....as the occupants' ears could tolerate high speed cruising for longer than the twin carburretor and 16 valve versions!! ;)

Sorry Curt - I didn't mean it like that...but it's not hard to get yourself a LHD 131 - Look at the choice that's available mate.  :) Perfect for continental 3MAs as the drivers of RHD 131s driving to Turin last year will testify!! :D

Thinking of booking this trip, but am after some suggestions/opinions.

First of all i've never driven on the other side of the road and secondly, is it a good idea to bring my 2 year old lad as my wife wants to go too?

Also, if travelling from the midlands (Derby) what's the best route?

Hello Bob,

I think I'll try and answer your questions in reverse order!

According to Autoroute (see map below) you should still take the Southern Dover to France crossing. You could take a crossing further North in the UK to Hook of Holland but it will be a very long sea crossing and won't save you much driving. It will also mean you'll be most likely driving on your own in Europe and there's safety in numbers. So my suggestion would be to drive to Dover or nearby on the 12th of May and stay one night in a Travelodge or similar. Then you can join our growing convoy of 131s for the 6:00am ferry from Dover to Dunkerque.

Regarding your 2 year old and wife, I'd say by all means bring them along but you know your lad best and you should know if he is going to be OK spending a very long time in a car or not. Once you are in Lossburg it won't be a problem as your wife and young lad can join in for the shorter drives and stay and enjoy the hotel and its facilities if they want on the other days. But getting there and getting back will be a couple of long all-day drives.

Driving on the wrong side of the road is not a problem. On the motorways you'll soon forget you are on the wrong side of the road. Once again this is where being in a convoy of 131s all driving on the wrong side of the road is better than being on your own.  ;)

sev . i had the same probs    had to do a u turn went past the waterloo  mound and turned around and started off on the wrong  side and continued for 3/4 mile on the wrong side off the road and nobody else in the car realized
 until the blast off truck hootters  ???
 and the felixstow to zeeburgker  9 hours overnight.
