The first proto type abarth was made in 1975 and had the 130 v6 engine and a zf 5 speed back axel it was too heavy in front and was killed off by top managment when it was  decided it was too expensive It was a mean looking beast with much bigger and wider arches and a whaletail type spoiler its in the book by Grahm Robson page 55

It is the rear track and front track that make me feel it is an 031 as the track was very wide due to the transaxle gearbox but the dimensions are very similar looking

Hi, sid131.

I do not know the racing history. But, there is a possibility that VANNI (the owner at that time) entered for a race (rallye ?).

According to the "ABARTH GUIDE" (by Alfred S. Cosentino & Nigensha),

well Enzo you would be the man who knows about destroying a 131 sport, well if it was a mint one & i got all the interior & trim bits then it may be ok ;) ;)
but cars like this should be made out of tired 2 door 131s as all will be replaced or thrown away?

Gents,

Anyone remember this thread.....

http://131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?topic=1206.0 (http://131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?topic=1206.0)

The 035 was not raced by Abarth, it was another interesting project that never realised its full potential before Abarth (steered by Fiat corporate level Accountants) decided to develop Lancia as the race/rally pedigree marque for the Fiat Empire.

Enzos pic seems to show the car while in the aerodynamic development stage, it was decided to run the car at the LeMans circuit to test the high speed stability on the then non-spoiled Mulsanne straight.
The car reached a top speed of 174mph  and was responding well to aerodynamic 'tweeking' when the plug was pulled.

It was not the end of the 1.4 Volumetrico engine though, Abarth used it again in the early Monte Carlo sillouette race car...... The car that was to become the Beta Monte Carlo Turbo.

I saw the 035 at Monza during the World Abarth Meeting 1997 and I was on track when it passed me....... it sounds like a ghost train from the fairground when its at full throttle  :D 8)
