Title: Super in Ireland
Post by: italianxrays on January 15, 2010, 06:58:49 AM
 :)
Oh how I wish I had bought 10 Supers 15 years ago, the ?450 I paid then seems a real bargain now !!
BTW Personally I prefer the square headlights, keeps everything square as it should be ?

Been for sale for a while now. Looks like a nice car, but a lot of money for a four door.

I agree going by the pictures it does look good but.
Do we look at the 131 4 door the same as the Fordies look at the MK2 Escort 4 door ?? (ie) It is worth way less than the 2 door i would say so.
I was asked just today by someone (Quote) What is a 131 Sport worth on classic book value compared to an RS 2000 Escort, i answerd the price difference is like night and day according to classic car mags anyway but what a genuine 131 fan will pay for a good Sport is another question.
So if we were looking for a good 131 4 door in real good condition what would we pay ???
Apart from the rust issue the 131 Sport/Racing was streets ahead of the RS 2000..

Price is what someone will pay & where money is no object, for my pennies worth.....
4 doors have such a nice family feel & look.....square lights, power steering, softer suspension etc. really is a sheep in wolfs clothing and I would  ;)suggest the 2 litre versions now becoming even scarcer than all the 2 door sports or Abarth replicas (without their fully linked suspension etc) .............but with almost identical performance !!

Two door sports will of course always be valued more.......perhaps thats why I am content... .....I just love my non sporty interior in full velour BTW just need this year to get her out of mothballs.

Four door Escorts are now also going up in value as the two doors are now expensive and out of the financial reach of many. I would suggest that 4 door 131s may go the same way in the future as the sport prices have climbed out of the reach of many.

Some people here seem to assume that all 'genuine' enthusiasts have deep pockets. I don't believe this is true. I'm sure there are many people who love the 131 but are now unable to afford one (particularly a sport).

I happen to like the Escort as well as the 131 and although the 131 was better equipped than the Escort RS2000 I still believe the RS2000 to be a great car. I would be quite happy to own one anyway ;)

I agree 4 door Escorts are going up in value steady the last 3/4 years any way. Also i agree  the 131 4 door in 2000 tc spec is getting more rare.
But still the 131 to buy is so much harder to find than the Escort, after all Escorts are still 10 a penny really.
You would expect that the rarity of the 131 2 door or 4 door would push prices up even further they cant stay cheap forever. :)
Also it is true in the 131's case it is what your willing to pay but unlike the MK2 there seems to be no kind of officialish pricing structure (ie) general price for good fair mint.
A lot although not all sellers seem to just pick number out of the sky.
