Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: miro-1980 on February 04, 2010, 05:01:14 AM I asked this guy some detailed questions on head casting number and block casting numbers - we will see if re replies and if this is just an Argenta/131/132 mix or an original real piece?
Miro Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: simon131 on February 05, 2010, 07:52:05 AM That's not what I call cheap :o :o
Could do with much more detail and a few more pics in the advert if the guy is serious about selling it. ::) Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: miro-1980 on February 05, 2010, 11:04:51 PM He may be serious about selling , but definitely not about giving out any details. It seems to me this may be a look-alike conversion rather than a genuine piece
This is the question I sent to him and no reply yet. Dear Vincenzo Very interesting , but not nearly enough details to make a bid at this price level. The price indicates this is an original Abarth engine not a replica build from non Abarth parts and a 16 v head. Please provide : 1/detailed engine data (rods/pistons/rings/ camshafts, etc.) 2/ compression data 3/details on oil sump modification (dry sump / wet sump/ big wing ?) 4/any other engine modifications as compered to original crankshaft/flywheel/oil pump. 5/ are components to rebuild engine are original Abarth or 124/131/132/argenta (new or rebuilt)? 7/ carburetor information 8/dyno test results (graphs) of the engine showing 190 CV. 9/good pictures of the engine from all sides 10/clutch type information (ceramic/organic) 11/block cast number 12/head cast number 13/engine number 14/info on the chassis number this engine came from Reply to my email directly.... If this is an original 131 Abarth engine I can fly to you to inspect it and make you an offer. Miro If I was selling (a genuine piece that is) and got a mail like this my reply would be immediate . On the other hand if the piece was only a look allike i would get scared to try to pass it as an original by a guy who knows what he is talking about .... So much about the original Fiat 131 Abarth newly rebuild engine. Incidentally this guy is not the only one trying to pull a fast one o ebay . Ebay is not a friendly exchange forum of auto enthusiasts but a business with all the quick money for nothing skim guy fishing for idiots. Miro Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: 106usj on February 05, 2010, 11:18:15 PM If you are a genuine ebay seller you will provide all the details you can think of and post as many pictures as ebay will allow and reply to all genuine sounding emails you recive.!!!
That would aply to all bids of i guess ?50-?100 and above as for 15,000 Euro i would have nothing but great detail, recipts for parts and as many photos as possible. Would you agree ?? Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: sid131 on February 05, 2010, 11:44:37 PM Ebay is just a money making machine now not what it used to be if i had that engine for sale & it was the genuine article i would answer everyone & send all the details that miro asked for,

Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: miro-1980 on February 06, 2010, 12:19:06 AM I believe we al;l; agree about both this case and e-bay in general
In this context I would appeal to all members to share at this forum web addresses of forums/pages/portals that are less commercial but rather user exchange oriented We have a To give a good example : There ois a very intere4sting French web page where owners/car enthusiasts offer their own parts vehicles for sale . the prices are reasonable ad the crowd is friendly; It is only in French but with a bit perseverance one can find one very interesting vehicles and parts for very reasonable prices- the address is for 131 search is : http://www.leboncoin.fr/li?ca=15_s&q=fiat%20131&th=1&w=3&o=1 Miro PS : If there is a members response I will add a separate thread for this kind of links as they are indeed refreshing after the globalized and commercialized e-bay . - MOTORE COMPLETO DI TUTTO + ACCENSIONE - Pistoni Stampati Borgo - Equilibratura + Alleggerimento Volano - Carburatori 2 48 e Collettore Alquati - Coppa Olio con Paratia + Modifica Capienzo - Impianto Lubrificazione con predisposizione Radiatore Esterno - Albero a Cammes - 190CV Nice to hear back from him but a bit amateurish in detail. The same can be said about my friends Polonez engine ( also 16v 2.0. DOHC ) whose engine is newly rebuilt and still is a complete junk. On condition of the engine he says : "CONDIZIONI: Motore Completamente Revisionato con PEZZI NUOVI e fermo da 20 anni, questo era il motore scorta del mio 131 Abarth Rally, uno delle 65 che hanno corso!!" So what ? I can claims the same on almost any old engine ; I want head cast number and block cast number. Without this the claims it totally unreliable. Now the guy may have what he claims to have - It may be a genuine 131 Abarth Rally engine but based on initial information and his response I have to conclude that I have no data which supports his claims. Thus this is not worth pursuing. Miro PS I would have problems buying a rebuilt engine from anybody, unless this was Guy Croft whose reputation is clear ,and who has the expertise , access to parts , knowledge and experience rebuilding such engines. I would rather pay the extra fee for getting Guy's engine rather than spent 15K for something who may not be what the owner claims it to be , and may be totally f+++++ up in terms of workmenship, parts used , etc , etc. I would feel less at risk buying this engine before it was rebuilt, provided the engine goes to Guy and he appraises its value ans suitability for rebuild. M Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: 106usj on February 09, 2010, 08:29:19 PM I totally agree miro.
For 15,000 i would far rather buy from the likes of Guy Croft even if it was more expensive. That is if i had 15k to spend Title: Re: Fiat 131 Abarth 16V for sale in Italy Post by: miro-1980 on February 13, 2010, 08:39:14 PM Well ,
People are not stupid - no bids. Auction ended without anybody puting up minimum bid of 13900 Euro. ( Can you believe it !) There is hope ! (or people just do not have the money for expensive toys). Miro |
