Title: 131 Abarth replica " Trademe"
Post by: italianxrays on October 01, 2010, 04:28:14 PM
 :)
Interesting, no details of exact mods ie. suspension, looks like a Sport with arch kit and tacky seats / steering wheel / extra instruments.
Price converts to approx. ?15k? good value......................not ?

just noticed his signature is "Fordboy" lol, maybe should sell the Escorts put some decent money / parts into the replica ??

As far as i know all 131 UK Sports have drums on the back  maybe the Racing has no Drums.
Anyway this forum has some real Abarth quality replicas on it, that white one as i said is a Sport/Racing coverd in fibre glass and over priced to say the least !!

The only difference between the 131 Sport and 131 Racing is the name. The 131 Sport and/or Racing has drums at the rear as standard. A few have been converted to rear disc brakes. But you are right, the car in the advert is a Sport/Racing with extended glassfibre arches. It doesn't even have a full Abarth body  kit that would include glassfibre bonnet and bootlid (with spoiler) and complete front wings and rear quarter panels.

Anybody here saw the "tuned"interior ???

A good example from a Sport destroyed with the ambition to Abarthise it.

If you pay your panel beater $65/hr and after 300 hours you get that ugly piece of crap there's really something wrong.

Strathe174
Do you not agree it is just another cheap Abarth copy over priced.
Some of the pro Abarth/Abarth replica guys on here have spent more than that thing is worth in suspension.
I dont like to slag off 131's but i dont like price piss takers for a quick buck & a half done job.
Sorry but its my opinion.

Here we go again: Yes, it's a replica. Yes, it's overpriced and yes some parts don't "fit". But someone build it, spend time and money on it...therefor, respect that person. You don't have to like it, but don't burn it to the ground. It's this builder's point of view how the car should look like. And he wants to sell it now. Somebody will buy it and maybe he will register here on the forum...think about that.

New Zealand received the same spec 131's as in the UK, so the early models were known as "Racing" and then the name was changed to "Sport" for the later years.  Yes, this car is overpriced for our market, but I suppose it only takes one person with the cash that is willing to part with it, and I can understand if this seller is genuinely trying to recoup some of his expenses.

What I don't understand is why as soon as anyone puts anything remotely resembling an Abarth part near a 131 it is the widely accepted route to make an identical replica.  I have some Abarth panels on my car, there are many reasons I have chosen to use these, both practical and asthetical.  I have no intention to build a replica. I am building something that meets my needs and it puts a smile on my face.

I fully respect everybody elses love for these cars and the creations they are preserving/building.  Lets get on with some sharing of practical knowledge and put  this merry-go-round of opinion in the background.

That's my rant for the week.  Everybody back to building cars!

Regards

J.

How would you call a 131 with just the fiberglass parts added to it? I agree with you that "Replica" isn't the right word for it.

What i mean is !!
These 131s are coming up more & more now, for sale.
People seem to slap on Abarth fibre glass panels onto their 131 Sport/Racing and then this gives them a licence to ask any ammount of money for it.
I have seen many examples of this practice on the net this this year,15k,25k,50k.
If someone wants to pay this kind of money for this fibre glass trend, well, i wish you luck.
Anyway i was making an example of this car being another one of these, and (not !!) picking at that individual car.
I hope the guy sell's it and someone takes good care of it.

Ill say no more on this subject, as you have to watch what you say so much now.
People read into things too much nowadays im afraid..

@106usj:
I hope you don't mean me because I'm treating all of these with humor and not seriously... ;)
@mirafiori76:
Mike we can't burn it to the ground for any reason. Because it's a 131 sport after all!!! :D :D :D

:) I gave my view because I genuinely feel some 131 Abarth replicas are way overpriced thats all not to start yet another "hot "debate with members falling out or even leaving this wonderful Forum of enthusiasts but of the 2 below inc the older Stradale advert I know which I prefer : Abarth rep is 35000 euros !! no detailed pics or spec etc.

Now here's a fine example of a genuine Abarth Stradale and e replica. The blue car nicely
restored in it's beautiful color.
The second car is a replica for sure. And I know this because I build it! When I bought it this
was a Racing with an Abarth kit mounted. Alfa Romeo wheels added and an exhaust that went right
through the rear end plate...
Had a wonderful vacation with it before i turned it into an Alitalia look-a-like. Had a dramatic accident
some years later and stored the badly crushed car for four years. Restored it completely and had it
for five years more. Then I sold it last year. Recently it turned up again for sale.
