Title: New headlights ...and goodbye.
Post by: kev131 on February 22, 2011, 08:42:13 PM
I picked up a set of 4 Racing/Sport headlights at il mostro scambio in Imola about 4 years ago. The guy wanted ?80 but all the cash I could scrape together at the time was ?62/3 which he gladly accepted. They've been sitting in a box until last week when I decided to fit them to my Sport. The existing headlights were not bad...or so I thought..until the new ones were fitted. They have transformed the look of the car - Hard to see in the photos but I'm delighted with the improvement. Along with the new grill fitted a while ago the front looks very fresh. I also fitted a new indicator unit as the old one had corroded contacts.

The second part of the thread is that I've sold my four door Supermirafiori. I thought it was a keeper but somebody wanted it more than I did so it left for a new home 2 days ago. Here are some pics of the two 131s together for the last time...along with the new headlights.  :)

Well it may already have Dave...

As you know I'm after a 132 2000 and I have discovered one in Switzerland. One owner and 29000kms from new. The thing is that it is still snowing heavily over there so it will not be feasible to go over for it for a month or so by which time it might be sold... :-\ C'est la vie.  :)

so, if it's that good, just send him 5% of the price and ask him to wait for a month.
is it gold coloured one?

Waiting for some more pictures before I can decide if it is "good" but the signs are positive. Also the price is high so I'd like to do some negotiation...but paying a deposit is a good suggestion once I satisfy myself on the condition & price. :)

A tip i learnt from David on this forum...... Wire the headlights direct to the battery via a relay using the original wire as the switch. Put some osram nightbreaker bulbs in all 4 headlights & you will be amazed at the difference. You wont need full beam ever. The sky lights up..... It was the single most notable modification on anything that ive done & i would do this even if the car was brand new. All can be fitted making a loom to fit the existing loom & using existing holes & mounts on the car so is completely reversable. On a rainy day do an experiment on the one side & compare it to standard side.    WoW.

but nightbreakers have slight blueish hue that reminds me of kids with their xenon wannabee blue headlights. Osram silverstar are much better. clear white light, significantly stronger than standard bulbs

I fitted a HID kit to my daily driver Xantia. What a difference!

Osram nightbreakers definetly not blue at all. Pure white light, no tinges, but it will make your side lights look destinctly feeble. Cheap upgrade maintaining cool look.

Correct. Nightbreakers are pure white light. Unfortunately, their MTBF is very short as compared to "normal" H4/H1 bulbs. Have them in my daily driver Mercedes, am very pleased with the light.

Philips Nightvision are said to live longer, but their price is also much higher than for Osram.

(MTBF = Mean Time Between Failures, to anticipate questions)

Kev,
I could nip down to Switzerland ( which town ?? ) and get the car to Munich for you no problem for just my receipted expenses. They ALWAYS keep the big passes and tunnels open in Switzerland, unless the car is buried in the back of a Summer shed above the snowline in some quiet godforsaken valley ?
I have secure parking in two places here in Munich. I have a one day slot off work on this coming Saturday the 5th if it's any use to you. Phone me or PM me on the other place if you need to avail of this offer.
