Post by: stathe174 on April 26, 2011, 08:57:19 AM
Hi everyone, does anyone know what is the max width for the wheels that we can put in a 131 first series?

I mean the width of the rim. What is the max. we can put 6" or 7"?

I think a 7" should fit at the rear but comes out of the wing at the front.

I fitted 7x15 on my series 3. you can see the result at http://www.131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?topic=4805.new;topicseen#new

The  wheels came from group4wheels. I have asked Jonathan if he can get us another width namely 6x15". They should fit better on standard cars such as ours and also on other great Fiats.

Actually your car caused me that question. I thing it looks really nice. Do you have any problems when you turn the steering wheel all the way?

wheels look excellent on 131, but IMHO, the whole car is sitting way too high, mainly because of the wheels. ride height is increased reducing stability

or http://www.histowheels.com/Cromodora/Cromodora-CD-66/ with 205/60/13 http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebrand=Toyo&tiremodel=Proxes+R888

I will take some pics of the wheels and the space there's left between wheel and outside. I can turn the steering wheel all the way round, it just hits the plastic inner wing protection cap but I am going it reform it a little bit by heating it. The space at the rear wheels is just enough without taking pasengers. Chances are that the wheel arch inner side has to be either knocked up with a hammer ;) or the edge of the inner whel arch can be made smaller by using a disc grinder :'(

The pictures will explain a lot  ;)
Does anybody know if the 13" wheels also fit on a 3 series ??

Yes I think series 3s also came with 13" wheels.

Definitely did. My 1983 S3 Super 1400TC had 13" wheels (original rims).

I've got 15" x 6" on my series 2, with 205/50 tyres. The rear did rub a bit when hard cornering or with passengers in the back. I've since fitted a 132 disc rearend which is narrower, so the rears don't rub any more. Besides rim width, you'll have to take offset into account.

Hi Stathe,

After really trying to drive with the 7x15 wheels, I have abandoned the effort. I fitted tyres 195/55R15 in order to get the wheels fitted correctly but I can't drive with them.

The tyres keep hitting the wheel edges at the rear of the car thus taking of rubber at the side of the tyre, so I took the wheels of :(

I think I am going to fit Cromodora CD 30 in 5,5x13 with 205 tyres. Also looks good and drives even better !!

Sorry for Group4wheels but I have asked these guys to make a wheel in 6x15". That should fit perfectly.

205 tyre on a 5.5rim is a bit of a tight sqeeze. you might pull tyre off the rim when cornering hard. for 5.5 max is 185, even 195 is a bit risky.

I had 6,5 rims on my car with 205 tyres. Caused me no problem. Point is with ordinairy rear axles is that the car moves downward in an off-set way because of Panhard rod.
Personally i think 7x15 wheels are a bit too big for standard bodywork. Espacially when cornering. For hard driving or passengers in the back you could consider some load adjusters. I had them on my replica and it gave exellent performance.
