Title: Converting to electronic ignition.
Post by: mirafioriman on September 01, 2011, 11:11:23 AM
Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a 1585cc OHV engine to electronic ignition by fitting the distributor from a 2 litre?

As a guess I'd say 'yes' but you need to fit the complete distributor as well as coil with electronics module from a 2 litre. If you are going to use the Bosch system then the ballast resistor for the coil also needs to be fitted. But as I said, this is just an (un)educated guess and not something I've done before.

It's someone I sold a 1600 OHV engine to. He wants to convert it to electronic ignition.

Yes you can I've done it using the 131 2.0ltr Marelli system, the wiring will all match up as well. The Bosch system is far more complicated.

If you can verify if a 124 cam mounted distributor uses the same points as your engine why not go with a Pertronic Ignitor:

I'm been running one on my 68 Ford Fairlane for 10 years and it's worked fine.

That sounds like a good deal. Did they fit an electronic ignition system to your existing points distributor?
