I'm afraid they don't do anything for me in the looks department at least >:(

I don't mind the shapes but they need to do something about the prices if they are to stand a chance of being competitive in the UK market.  :o Most UK buyers do a fair amount of research before they buy a new (or used!) car so they are unlikely to be fooled by the Chrysler badges.

Personally I quite like the shape of the Delta and Ypsilon - I agree that they're not inspiring but IMHO they're not ugly either. 8)

Simon

I notice by your signature that you have had a 5 Series Update  :o Alright for some  ;D :D Any pictures of the replacements. Did you consider anything else or is it a case of 5 Series Only. When I picked up my 520D late in 2007 from Cooper BMW Reading, there was a lovely 535 D Sport there that I really fancied  ;) I would imagine performance wise it is superb. I e really prefer the Diesel Models to the Petrol and at one time I was a real Diesel Hater  :o.

As for the Lancia's they are quite agreeable in the looks department.

Well spotted Rob. ;) Yes, I 'upgraded' to a 35 on the last day of June, so I've had the car for a few months now and it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it!  8) ;) I was a serious diesel hater too and was actually looking at V10 M5s (and was jerked about by Coopers at Cobham!) when I found this 535 d M Sport at my local dealer awaiting prep for sale.

Most people didn't notice I'd changed my car (which I wanted as some people at work question how I can afford it! ::) not that it's any of their business!) as it's the same colour as the last one (carbon black) and with 172 alloys too, although my 525d had a black interior and this one has a 'light tan' interior. The main difference is what lurks under the bonnet! ;D ;D ;D

The 535d is the same 3.0 litre block that was in my 525d but it has twin turbos delivering 282 bhp and 560Nm of torque - which is huge power. 0-62 is about 6.5secs which is quick for such a big car and makes 'spirited driving' all too easy. ;D The first few days it was only giving me 17 mpg  :o (and AndyC can vouch for that!) but in everyday driving I get about 30, with 42 on a recent run to Norfolk - so not all bad.

Truth is, the 525d always lacked something and when I drove the 535d I realised what it was! ;D ;D ;D

Sounds a great Drive. My 525i can shift with 230BHP. However to extract the performance it requires bouncing the Rev's off the 7,000 RPM Limiter  :o :o The Tan Interior I like (refer to my recent post on car cleaning for pictures). However, I believe it looks more worn then a black interior of a similar age. My conclusion is therefore it is alright in a Company Car, but not with my hard earned  ;D ;D. I managed to keep my Imola Red 330i Sport (a few cars ago) with Tan Interior in 1st Class Condition, usually by not letting people in the car  :o :o ;D.

You must obviously like the look of this shape, having invested in another. Personally I am not that keen and think the new shape one looks far better  :-\ My Neighbour's Wife has a Metallic Black New Shape 535i and when parked near my car the comparison is obvious  :-\ :'( ;D

Did you not have a look at the E Class, A6 or XF  :D ;D

I must admit that this is my first 5-series (other than the Aegean Blue Ltd 530i Sport I had a few years ago) with a light coloured interior - all of the others have been black leather, but the tan makes it feel like a totally different car.

I have considered all of cars you mentioned but can't see anything other than a 5-series sitting on drive for the foreseeable future.  ;D The Merc still screams 'old man's car' (and my Dad has a Merc - so does Theo! ;) :D ;D (Sorry Theo! :-*)), the A6 is far too "Volkswagen" for the money ;). As for the Jag - I like the outside but the interior isn't to my taste. A work mate of mine recently purchased a brand new 3.0D XF and I've spent a bit of time in it and it looks very 'British' - if you know what I mean and I wouldn't like to say how long the interior will last either - looks a bit cheap.

Yeah, I love the look of the e60, especially the rear flank curve into the high boot line. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I know - but I love it.  8)

I take your point Jason.

However Simon and I are both originally by Profession Quantity Surveyors (I still am to a certain degree, I think  ??? ???) and we are bioth working in the worst downturn in Construction the World has ever seen  :( >:( :'( :'( with the worst hangover from the boom that can ever be imagined  :'( :'( :'(

A bit of light banter during the day certainly takes my mind off it for a few minutes  ;D ;D :D

With reference to your comments Simon especially about the Jag, I have to agree  :) The A6 is also a bit VW ish. Mercs are for all ages over 30 (I am beginning to quite like them, I think :-\)

However the back of a 5 Series is not Pretty as the picture shows (slightly pumped up Mk3 Granada >:( :(. What is pretty is the rear on a S1 131  ;D :D :)

Mercs are for all ages over 30

That's why I like (some of) them  ;D  ;D I am a tad over 30 in case you didn't know.....

Well... yes  ;)  But what is really pretty is the rear end of a Gamma Coupe  ;D (there I go throwing in another model to annoy Jason but at least I am keeping to Lancia which is the subject of this thread  ;D)

It's not the rear on view of the E60 that turns me on - but rather the view looking towards the rear from standing about 10 feet away from the drivers door when standing looking at the side-on view - if you know what I mean! ;D There is a beautiful sweeping line from the top wing/lower roof which looks great. Also, the Sport looks lower than most cars and longer too, especially in black. ;)

If I can take a decent pic of what I mean I'll post it up - but I'll have to have the local Poles wash it first! ;D

Simon

Quote 'Let the Local Poles Wash it First'.

Car washing always has to be done by me  :) :) In additon out here it is great exercise due to the heat and is far worse then an hour on the Squash Court  ;D ;D

It also needs doing every week (both cars) without fail whereas in England I could stretch it out to fortnightly washes  :D :D.

Is the local car wash allowed to touch the Abarth   ;D ;D

No Rob,

The Abarth is washed and polished by me and me alone ;D.

The trouble with a black car is that it gets dirty very quickly and also my 535 has 172 alloys which take ages to clean properly, especially as I don't possess a jet-wash ::). If I had plenty of spare time I'd obviously hand wash all of my cars myself, but for the sake of a fiver it isn't always worth me getting my hands wet - especially when I'm getting less and less free time to spend on my cars due to family commitments ::)

BTW - I don't take it just anywhere - the place I use has been thoroughly 'tested' by people I know and came recommended.  8)

The only good looking Lancia is an OLD Lancia !

The only good Chrysler is an OLD Chrysler with a 492 cubic inch Hemi engine !

New Chrysler and New Lancia just turns me off !
