Title: What was your car worth in 1984?
Post by: mirafioriman on November 19, 2011, 07:38:11 PM
Came across a price guide from 1984 today. I took a couple of photos of the Fiat pages both new prices and second hand prices. The photos show new prices for the full 1984 Fiat range and second hand prices for the 130, 131, 132 and Argenta.

I have linked the photos from my photobucket account so you can zoom in to see things more clearly ;D

Hi

I bought my Sport in 1984 which was a 1981 X reg with 49k on the clock for ?2100 which was a little below book. When I looked for one and saw some in garages they were on the market for ?2600 - ?3200

I wish I put it in a heated barn and left it there.

When I bought my second one in 1987 I paid ?1000 for the same age one.

Dave

Very interesting information :). Regarding new prices in 1984 the Supermirafiori was only ?120 more expensive then a 5 Door Escort 1.3L   :o :o This is of course before discounts are discussed, which I am sure Fiat would have been more then happy to do on this run out model  :D :).

Considering used prices, they were the bargain of the 1980's. It would be interesting to see what a 1981 Capri 2.0 S or an XR3 was worth in comparison with a then 3 year old 131 Sport  :) My guess is that Fiat was approximately 50% of their value.

When it comes to a real used bargain, the S3 132 2000, has to be the winner. Italian style, 2.0 Twin Cam, 5 Speed and Electric Windows for very little  :) :). Would have been a great family car in comparison to a Cortina, Granada, Princess etc.

The big shocking price is the 4.2 Daimler at North of ?20 Grand. Big money back then and would have dropped in value like a stone  :D ;D

In 1984 I can remember the RS2000 being the "in car" for the boy racers and they were paying ?4k+ for them for a 1976 - 78 car.
I was driving a 2-3 yr old Fiat that IMHO beat the RS2000 hands down in nearly every respect. Other than rust and holding its price at the time.

When you compare the S3 Super against the Escort there was no comparison really. The S3 IMHO was the better car.

When I bought my S2 132 (I think it was a S2) It was a 1978 S reg bought in 1983 I paid ?175 for it. Yes ?175 because they thought the engine was US. It was only the fuel lift pump had filled the sump up with fuel.

Memories of the past.
