Title: Bodywork Putty
Post by: keiran on December 12, 2011, 02:18:03 PM
Hi,
When I took the front wings off my car there was some type of oily putty between the top of the front wings and engine bay, also in between where the wing bolts to the front valance at the bottom and it has kept the metal like new underneath.
It has stopped the metal from scratching and rubbing along itself and has also kept the water from getting in, it has worked very well.

I was just wondering if anybody knows or uses anything to put inbetween the metal to stop it rubbing and eventually allowing the water in.

Thanks Keiran

You could use something like Tigerseal although it's an adhesive too so the wings might not be too keen to come off again.

3M do a product which is like long grey strips, called body cauking I think. You could try some of that if you like.

Thanks a lot for help.
That tape in the link looks very good will have to buy some to seal the wings up.
I have received all the chassis parts for under the floor pan and in engine bay so the car will be soon heading into the welders to get the ball rolling.

Hi

This is a non-setting, non solvent sealent that stays flexible.

Direct replacements are:

Dum Dum Putty.  Comes in a tin, apply with a filling knife or roll into a length and lay in place.

Arboseal.  Comes in a mastic tube.  Use with a sealent gun.

EBay is also full of Butyl tape.  This is the same product on a roll.
